Chapter 8 T he llamas were always restless before a trip. They were probably excited to be going to the mountains, as well as upset to be leaving the other llamas. On the other hand, did they think they were the chosen ones to be going? Jim thought to himself about how ‘smart,’ we as people think we are, and yet how little we know other living things. We really can’t tell what is going on in the minds of animals like llamas or even ‘higher’ animals like other primates or cetaceans. The easygoing and passive llamas lay down while the pushy llamas jostled for space. Shasta, of course, was the king of push.
