he old oceanography building on the UW campus was just south of the health sciences building where the microbiology and immunology departments were located. It could not have been in a less visible position. It was one of those rare places not on anyone’s way to anywhere and that made it the perfect choice for an emergency operations center. It was quickly filling with people and equipment. Everyone knew that, if Nusmen’s bacteria were released, they would quickly migrate to other hospitals, and the death toll among the weakest patients could be enormous.
