Chapter 3

I did not know how long I passed out. When regained consciousness, I saw Caleb sitting on the bed staring at me with cold hostility. I was startled and tried to get up but still felt very dizzy. I felt the back of my head and realized that the assailant hit my head with the wooden bat and my head bled profusely. “Who are you?” Caleb asked coldly without any concern for my injuries. I felt a little lost and disappointed. After all, I had been taking care of him all this time and he was now awake due to my blood. Furthermore, I was now his wife but he still spoke to me in that manner. I gritted my teeth and propped myself to sit up. I then tore off part of my skirt to wrap my head wound. I then said softly, “Alpha Caleb, you had been in a coma for a long time and are unaware of many things. I’m your wife, Laurel, and we’ve been married for almost three months.” “Wife? Married?” The confusion in Caleb’s eyes quickly turned to anger. “Who permitted you to do this? My marriage can’t be arranged, I want to find my mate. I will only marry the person of my choice! I don’t know you and you don’t deserve to marry me. Now get the hell out of here right now! I don’t want to see you ever again!” He got out of bed but could barely stand after his long coma. However, he was so determined to throw me out that he managed to drag me out of his room mercilessly. I was thrown down the stairs and the pain was too intense for me to think of anything else. It took me a long time to catch my breath before I finally got back on my feet. “What’s going on here?” Betty walked into the courtyard with a bucket of herbs and was startled to see me in such a sorry state. I waved my hand as she re-bandaged the wound behind my head. I then struggled to tell her, “Go and report to Luna Mary that Caleb has woken up.” I was sitting by the stairs when Mary arrived. Although my head was no longer bleeding, the cloth used for the bandage was soaked with blood that it looked horrible. I briefly told Mary what had happened. I was not sure who had just attacked me but I thought it was someone from the pack. After all, Caleb’s place was heavily guarded and it would have been very difficult for someone from a hostile pack to infiltrate. Mary ordered her men to investigate while she eagerly entered the room. Caleb was sitting on his bed and looked rather pale. He seemed to be very angry to find out what had happened during his coma. Caleb heard the movement and looked this way. He said gloomily, “Mother, get rid of her immediately. I don’t want to see her at all,” Caleb said and pointed at me. Mary looked at him but did not say anything. She just walked over and gently held his hand. “My dear son, you are finally awake. All these days I’ve been on tenterhooks. You are the hope of the future of the Red Moon Pack. I can’t lose you and have used every way possible to wake you up from the coma. Now that you are well, you must start fulfilling your obligations as an heir. Laurel is the wife I have chosen for you. You are now married and she has been taking good care of you. I now order you to have children.” Caleb’s eyes narrowed and began to fume when he heard these. “Mother, you cannot interfere with my marriage, much less force me to have children!” He clenched his fists tightly while his lips began to quiver. When he turned his eyes onto me, I could feel that he was so angry that he could rip me from limb to limb. “I don’t want this wife. If she bears a child for me, then I will strangle it with my own hands without mercy! You know that I’ll do whatever I say!” I was terrified by what he said. If he was able to say such words about killing his own offspring, then what would he do to me? I thought that Mary would make concessions since Caleb was so defiant. However, I underestimated Mary’s determination. “Caleb, this is what you have to do as the future heir of the Red Moon Pack. You can’t get away with it.” Caleb was very uncooperative during the ceremony. He knocked over the bowl with the black-colored water and smashed everything. I could not resist like he did, I was weak, I had to do what Mary told me to do. Thus, Caleb’s hatred for me grew even deeper. This day I concocted the medicine for him and carefully tried to feed it to him, but he violently knocked the bowl over. “Didn’t I say that I never want to see you again? You’re disgusting.” Caleb snickered and grabbed me by the neck. “I heard that you are from New Moon Pack. How can a lowlife of that pack be worthy of being married to me? I don’t know what you used to get yourself here and become my wife but I’ll tell you one thing. You’re delusional if you think that you can get anything out of me.” He thinks that I want to get something from him? All I want is my freedom and to be as far away from him as I can! “Caleb, do you know why we are married? It’s actually because...” Just as I was trying to explain, he lunged at me and began to choke me. “What are you doing?” Mary yelled as she walked in the door and immediately stopped him from choking me. “Caleb! Laurel is your wife and you have to love her. She will produce excellent offspring for our Red Moon Pack. They will be your kids too. You must not lay a hand on her anymore, you hear me?” Mary protected me more because she cared more about her future grandchildren than me. Caleb, however, did not listen to her. “I told you that I don’t consider her my wife. If you don’t stop this ridiculous arrangement, I will make all of you regret it!” He then continued to choke me again and this time he used all his force as he was determined to end this. I felt as though an anaconda was squeezing my neck and could no longer breathe. Ally: Laurel! Oh my god, don’t do this to Laurel! Me: Help me... Ally: Hold on Laurel! Just as my wolf was about to burst out of my body, Caleb was forcibly pinned to the bed by Mary and I was finally able to catch my breath. I crawled to the side and tremored as I tried to calm down. “Son, it hurts me so much that you are so ignorant. You shouldn’t hate your wife so much. Since you were injured and fell into a coma, I had gone through countless ways to save you, but each time I failed. The only reason you came out of your coma was because of Laurel...” Mary choked up a little, but quickly regained her composure and reassumed her majestic posture. “There is nothing more to be said. My child, you must fulfill your obligations.” She then immediately ordered Betty to summon the sorceress. The last ritual began. Caleb was force-fed many potions, and he quickly collapsed because he had only recently recovered. Soon, his body took on a strange appearance, and after an erection, I was instructed to initiate the mating. It was painful but I did not dare to scream. I could only close my eyes and continue with the mating process. I had never been so humiliated before as the ceremony was public with Mary and some others present. It felt worse than death. What could I do? I had nowhere to go now and must do whatever I was told. This was now my life.
