His Alpha Wife

Chapter 5

When I woke up again, I found myself lying n***d in the courtyard. It was late at night and the surroundings were quiet as if no one knew what had just happened. I quickly got up and rushed back to my room to treat my wounds. Thereafter, I dressed up and returned to Caleb’s room as if nothing had happened. I proceeded to scrub his body and prepared his herbal potion.

“Where have you been?” Caleb asked indifferently as he lay on the bed. “I haven’t seen you all night. It was the maid who brought in water for me to drink. You should do your duty as a wife.”

“Sorry, I... I felt sick and had been resting in the woodshed.” I gave a lame excuse and he looked at me suspiciously but kept silent thereafter. I did not know if he believed me or not. Since he did not dwell on it, I guessed that he was not too bothered by it.

The wound on my shoulder tore as I moved. The pain caused me to wince and break out in a cold sweat. As if sensing my pain, Caleb suddenly grabbed my hand and squeezed it.

“All right, get out of my sight!” he yelled.

I was a little surprised by what he did. Although he yelled at me, he seemed to be taking care of me. I did not have the time or energy to speculate on his intentions and ran back to my room to stop the bleeding.

I was still very worried about my father and was barely able to sleep that night.

After a few days of agonizing, Betty found me again and told me that there was a significant change in the situation at the New Moon Pack. My father had regained control of the pack with the help of an ally.

“Is this true, Betty? You’re not lying to me, are you?”

“Laurel, don’t worry anymore. Your father is doing much better now.” She grabbed my hand and patted it as she said reassuringly, “I’m so happy for you.”

I heaved a sigh of relief and was overjoyed. “Betty, thank you for your help. Not only for updating me on my father’s situation but also for helping me to escape that night... I really don’t know how to thank you.”

“Escape?” Betty was startled when she heard my words, “Laurel, when did I help you escape? You mustn’t say that. Any attempt to escape is punishable by death!”

I was stunned. It did not look like she was lying. She ran away hastily without allowing me to clarify.

Me: Ally, what’s going on?

Ally: Who knows? Is there someone else here besides her who is trying to help us?

I was very concerned about this but I soon found the maid who helped me that night. She finally told me the truth after my relentless questioning. It turned out that the person who helped me that night was Caleb. Moreover, he was the one who saved me from the hounds. What surprised me the most was it was Caleb who supported my father to regain his authority within the pack.

“Alpha Caleb, what is going on here?” I asked him frantically as I could not figure him out. Why was he helping me when he tormented me and even threatened to kill the baby who I gave birth to?

Caleb replied frostily, “I’m free to do what I want. Why do you ask so many questions?”

I really could not understand and wanted to ask more questions. However, Caleb’s expression told me that it was not wise for me to ask any more questions.

I held my tongue and just as I turned to leave, Caleb said, “Here, take this.”

I took the tube of ointment handed to me by Caleb as he said, “This is the ointment I used previously. It’s almost past its expiration date. I don’t want it anymore. You can use it.”

Caleb left thereafter and I noticed his awkwardness as if he had blushed.

Was he concerned about me? Did he feel embarrassed that he showed concern for me?

When I thought about the things that had happened recently and how he had helped me and my father, I suddenly realized that life might be bearable from now on.

Since my father’s situation had improved significantly, I decided to put off the escape until I was completely sure that it was necessary.

My appetite had been particularly poor recently. I felt like vomiting whenever I smelled meat. I realized that I was pregnant but I was afraid to tell anyone about it. Although my relationship with Caleb was not as strained as it used to be, I worry that he would force me to abort the baby considering what he had previously said about what he would do to the baby. I needed to ensure that Caleb fully accepted me before I told him the news. “Baby, Mommy will protect you,” I said while feeling my belly.

Caleb had healed completely and today he was returning formally to lead his warriors. I followed behind him as he walked out the door. He took a couple of steps, stopped, turned around, and then waved me over. “Come on over.”

I hastily stepped forward and asked, “What do you need me to do, Alpha?”

“You are my wife,” he said and then looked into my eyes tenderly and then reached out to tuck my hair behind my ear. “None of the other warriors have seen you. You’ll accompany me today.”

I froze and wanted to why but I was in a daze and obediently nodded.

I accompanied Caleb to the training grounds. He took off his shirt to reveal his toned abs while the surrounding warriors cheered. They looked at Caleb and then turned their gaze toward me.

“Alpha Caleb, I’d better go back. This is not where I should be.”

“Don’t forget that you are also a talented alpha,” he said. He then lifted me onto his shoulders and circled the ground before letting me down. “Now everyone knows that you are my wife. You’ll have to cheer me on for the rest of the training.”

I nodded shyly. The tenderness in his gaze warmed up my lonely heart.

I finally came to terms with the significance of what he had done. Not only had he publicly recognized me as his wife, but he also wanted me to cheer him on during his training. Something sparked the fire within me and I cheered energetically for him as he trained vigorously with his warriors.

During the training, I noticed a woman cheering for Caleb just as much as I was.

Immediately after Caleb finished training, Mary summoned him to her tent. I followed him and waited for him outside the tent. Before long, I saw the woman who had cheered for Caleb walk into the tent. Mary started talking about something, and when I got close enough to listen in, I heard that the woman was Caleb’s designated mate by the Moon Goddess!

I remembered what Caleb had said that he wanted to find his mate and spend his life with her.

Then what about me? And what will happen to the child in my belly?
