Chapter 3: The Predators Den The safe house was a place where old secrets went to die. For Amara, who was now living in the body of Ava Reed it was a place to practice and learn. For three days Amara tested her body to see what it could do. She spent hours walking like a cat getting used to the weight of the knives she carried and the feel of a silenced pistol in her hand. Amara used to work in the world where she would hurt peoples reputations but now she was learning how to hurt people for real. Jax, the man from the house asked Amara "You're going back for him aren't you?" as he watched her sharpen a blade. Amara did not look up she just kept her eyes on the steel. "Lucien Voss is the person I do not understand yet. He is the key to getting what I need to get rid of Daniel and Serena." Jax said, "He'll kill you before you even get close to him." Amara whispered, "Let him try " her voice was cold. Voss Tower was a building made of black glass and steel it stood tall in the city. Amara was not going to walk through the front door. She wore a suit that fit her body tightly and she started to climb up the service elevator shaft. She moved quickly and quietly like a ghost. Landed on the 88th floor. Then she slipped through a ventilation shaft into the penthouse. The air inside the penthouse was different it smelled of wood and whiskey. Amara dropped down onto the carpet her hand on the knife at her waist. The room was silent except for the light shining through the windows and reflecting off the desk. A man was sitting in a chair Amara could see his outline. "You're late Ava " a deep voice said. Amara froze she had not made a sound. Lucien Voss stood up he was tall and handsome like an angel. But his eyes were cold and scary they seemed to see through her. "I do not like to wait " he said, leaning on his desk. Amara pulled out her pistol the laser sight was on Luciens chest. "You should have stayed in the light Mr. Voss. It's hard to kill someone who is walking around." Lucien did not move he just took a step closer to Amara. "You hesitated, Ghost. You saw something in my eyes that scared you." Amaras finger was on the trigger she wanted to shoot him.. Then Lucien said, "You're not the same girl are you? You're a woman now. You're hurt." Amara hissed, "I am not the girl who was scared." Luciens voice was low he said, "I know. You want my empire, not my life." Amara put down her pistol her heart was beating fast. "What do you want, Lucien?" He moved closer his breath smelled nice. He pulled out a box and put it on the desk. "Tomorrow Daniel and Serena are going to take everything you have Amara.. I can help you. I can protect you if you marry me." Amara stepped back she was surprised. "What do you get out of it?" Luciens eyes were cold he said, "I get a partner, a wife who's as ruthless as I am. You need a place and I need a queen." He stepped closer his lips were near Amaras. "Marry me Ava. Lets sign the contract and lets get rid of Daniel and Serena." Amara looked at the box at Lucien. This was not love this was business. This was war. "What if I say no?" she asked. Lucien smiled it was a sight. "Then you can go back to hiding.. We both know you were not meant to be, in the shadows, Amara." He knew her name Amara felt a rush of excitement. She said, "One year, no romance, no intimacy. I'll give you what you want. You'll give me what I want." Lucien agreed, he held out his hand. "Welcome to the family Mrs. Voss." As Amara took his hand she felt a spark. The contract was. The war was about to start.
