* 8 year old Ashley P.O.V *
I woke up from the sun that shone through a little gab between my curtains, right on my eyes. I turned around and tried to get a little bit more sleep. This almost worked, almost because I heard my door slowly open and two pair of footsteps slowly walk toward my bed. I groaned because I knew what was gonna happen and kept my focus on what they were doing, the moment I heard them stop walking, I suddenly sat up and saw Evan stumble back and fall on his butt. ‘’Haha, you really thought I was still sleeping’’ I said and looked at Evan. He grinned and shrugged his shoulders. ‘’Oh well, we just came to wake you up’’ he said and Dylan looked at me. ‘’Morning’’ he said dry but I could see he had hoped I was still sleeping. ‘’Morning, no tickling wake up for you mister’’ I said and got out of my bed.
I was wearing my pink bear pajamas and looked at them when I reached the chair I always had my clothes on. ‘’So.. you’re gonna leave or are you already perverts?’’ I asked. I had heard that word two days ago coming from a teenage pack member and had boldly asked what it meant. She had laughed and explained to me that a pervert a boy is who peeked at a girl getting dressed and ever since then I used the word when ever I could because I liked the sound.
Evan got up and walked back to the door followed by Dylan who shook his head. ‘’I would never peek at a eight year old..’’ he said and they shut the door. I quickly got dressed because today was the day uncle Charlie would take the boys to their first pack training. Normally they would start from twelve, like Dylan was but Evan would go along to watch because it was only a few months before he would turn twelve.
I didn’t go with him, because I’m eight years old. Soon to be nine, but still to young to go along for pack training. I put on my legging, skirt and t-shirt and quickly walked downstairs from our house. Since four years we had our own house, I didn’t remember much of our time in the pack house because I was very young but I did like it here more. We had each our own room and a big kitchen which was connected to the living room.
I sat down at the large table which was filled with food and looked at aunt Charlene who was baking the last eggs. ‘’Go ahead sweety, you can grab your breakfast’’ she said and I nodded. ‘’Alright auntie’’ I said and grabbed a sausage, eggs and two pieces of toast. ‘’Where are Dylan and Evan?’’ I asked before I took a bite. ‘’Oh they are somewhere here.. I must say they are so excited about the training that they are running around like headless chicken’’ Auntie says and I chuckle. ‘’I can’t wait to start my training.. I mean, school is fun of course and I know they also still need to go to school but I want to learn how to protect my family’’ I said in a proud way and Charlene smiled at me. ‘’You are a lot like your mother..’’ she said and even though I was young, I could hear a hint of sadness. ‘’I’m sorry..’’ I said and looked down, I didn’t want to cause sadness but suddenly I felt two arms wrap around me and hug me tight. ‘’Silly girl, I am not sad’’ Charlene reassured me and I smiled. ‘’Alright..’’ I said and gave her a bite of my sausage. She took it with a chuckle and then returned to the pan with eggs.
Right when she was done with them, uncle Charlie, Dylan and Evan walked in the kitchen. Auntie gave me a extra scoop with eggs and then put the others on the plates of the boys. ‘’So, what are the plans for today?’’ aunt Charlene asked, looking at uncle Charlie. ‘’Well, first breakfast.. Then I’ll drop the kids of at school and after it I’ll pick them up.. Bring Ash to the pack house and take Dylan and Evan with me to training’’ Charlie said in between bites. Charlene nodded. ‘’You can bring her to me after school, I am not that busy and then we can get the groceries for dinner’’ she said. ‘’Yes!’’ I said and smiled brightly, I loved going to the grocery store. Charlene laughed and I quickly finished my breakfast. ‘’I’m ready!’’ I said and jumped from the chair. Charlie laughed and was almost finished. ‘’Don’t you need to brush your hair?’’ he asked and I looked shocked for a moment. I was about to rush to the mirror when I heard Dylan chuckle. ‘’Uncle!!’’ I said and stuck out my tongue at him. Charlie also laughed and got up. ‘’Come on boys, or else we will be late...’’ he said.
Uncle Charlie brought us to the pack school, a building behind the pack house. Before high school we went here because even though we were not fully connected with out wolf. Werewolf children could have quite a temper which could lead to quite some trouble on a normal human school.
Once at the gate, I hugged uncle and gave Dylan and Evan a high five followed by a low five and a box. Then we went each our own way to the class we belonged in. During school I had always a lot of fun, apart from the normal classes like math and English we also had special Wolf classes. These were lessons in tracking but also formation running which meant we learned about border control but also hunting formations or when we are attacked.
Before I can actually realize it, school is over and I’m running to the gate trying to be the first at our pick up point. It was a thing Dylan, Evan and I always did. We always did races like this because we liked to challenge each other. When I saw the gat, I saw Dylan already sitting on it chatting with uncle Charlie but Evan wasn’t there yet. I ran as fast as my legs could go and saw Evan only a step behind me. I put in a little bit more and we finished at the same time. ‘’One day I’ll defeat you’’ I said taking a breath and Evan nodded with a smile on his face. ‘’I’m sure you will’’ he said and looked at his father. ‘’You two are weird’’ uncle Charlie calmly said and Dylan nodded. ‘’Yeah, because we all know you will defeat Evan maybe but you won’t come close to me’’ he said making his chest a bit big. I rolled my eyes and laughed a little. ‘’Only because you play mean. You go to the restroom a few minutes before school is over and take your backpack with you’’ I said and pointed to the door. ‘’And the rest room is like twenty meter closer to the exit door than your classroom’’ I added and stuck out my tongue at him. ‘’Well.. I.. I just have to pee and then school is over’’ Dylan says as a excuse but Charlie shakes his head. ‘’It is unfair to leave from a different place than your brother and niece’’ he said and looked at Dylan with a stern look.
Dylan groaned and got of the gate. ‘’Sorry Evan.. Sorry Ashley’’ he said and Evan and I looked at each other. Suddenly we started running. ‘’First at Aunt Charlene’s office gets the others desserts!’’ I said and ran as fast as I could. ‘’Hey!’’ Dylan said and started running after us. We went around the corner and suddenly bumped into Alpha George. Because I was on first place, I bumped into him first and Evan bumped right into me.
We fell on the ground and heard the Alpha chuckle. ‘’Well hello there’’ Alpha George said and helped us up. ‘’Sorry Alpha George’’ I said and he chuckled. ‘’It is alright.. No one is hurt?’’ he asked and we shook our heads. Dylan came around the corner and saw us with the Alpha. ‘’Ah, Hello Alpha George’’ he said and then looked at us. ‘’What happened?’’ he asked. ‘’We bumped into the Alpha’’ Evan said and Dylan laughed. Uncle Charlie also came around the corner and saw us with the Alpha. ‘’Oh dear lord.. What did you three do?’’ He asked and right when we wanted to explain Alpha George spoke: ‘’Oh nothing Charlie, they were probably racing and Evan and Ashley bumped into me but nothing happened’’. Charlie nodded. ‘’Alright, then I am happy’’ he said.
‘’But now that I found you, can I ask you something Charlie?’’ Alpha George asked and uncle Charlie nodded. ‘’As a parent to parent.. What is a good gift for a one year old?’’ Uncle George asked and we all started to chuckle and laugh a bit. Uncle Charlie hushed us but he also had a hard time keeping the smile of his face, I could see it. ‘’Well, for Ashley we bought a doll but she smashed its head in after three days..’’ Charlie said and I blushed a bit ashamed. Dylan and Evan laughed on their turn because of the event that they of course could remember very good. Alpha George laughed and nodded. ‘’What about wooden blocks?’’ he asked and uncle Charlie thought about it for a moment. ‘’Could be a good idea, but Dylan mostly used them as throwing objects and Evan as chewing toys’’ he said with a chuckle. Now it was the turn of the boys to look away sheepish and I chuckled.
‘’Ah there you are!’’ a familiar voice said and I turned to see aunt Charlene. ‘’Oh s**t!’’ uncle Charlie said and smiled. ‘’I’m not the one getting in trouble with the trainers’’ she said and Charlie nodded. ‘’It was my fault sis, so I’ll mind link the trainers so they know you will be coming’’ Alpha George and for a moment he closed his eyes. ‘’Thank you Alpha’’ Charlie said and started to walk away, he wasn’t that fast with his cane though when he had to be or really wanted, he could be. I knew that because I had seen it. ‘’When are you gonna start calling me brother?’’ Alpha George asked and I chuckled. ‘’Never.. You’re my alpha’’ Charlie answered and I looked at Charlene. ‘’I always forget Alpha George is your brother’’ I said and Charlene chuckled. ‘’Well, we do not look a like much so I can understand’’ aunt Charlene said and I took her hand in mine. ‘’Shall we go shopping?’’ she then asked and I nodded. ‘’Bye big brother’’ Charlene said and George waved at us. ‘’Bye uncle Alpha George’’ I said and I heard Charlene and George chuckle.
Aunt Charlene and I went to the grocery store and bought the food for that evening and for breakfast the next morning. Wolves eat a lot and we went often to the grocery store because canned food wasn’t very good to us. Not that we didn’t like the taste or were picky, well some of us were but mostly we didn’t buy that because it had not the right amount of vitamins. ‘’What do you want for breakfast?’’ aunt Charlene asked and I looked at the shelves. ‘’Can we make waffles?’’ I asked. ‘’Sure we can, your uncle will like that a lot’’ she said and grabbed the waffle batter. ‘’Will you wake me up so I can help?’’ I then also asked and she smiled. ‘’Sure honey, do you also want to help with dinner tonight?’’ she asked and I nodded quickly. ‘’Yes! I would love that!’’ I responded and felt like the happiest kid in the store. Charlene chuckled and then told me to grab the fruit for on the waffles tomorrow.
I ran away and once I saw the crates with fruit I slowed down because I didn’t want to bump into them. Aunt Charlene had told me how I should take fruit from the crates and put it in plastic bags if it wasn’t in a casing. I took a few plastic bags and started to take some pears, apples, oranges. Then I took a net with oranges and I was about to grab a package with grapes when a slightly bigger hand took the same one as I grabbed. ‘’Oh sorry.. I didn’t see you’’ I said in a apology and looked up. I saw a boy, I guessed a little bit older than Dylan looking back at me with green eyes, his black hair was short and a little spiky. ‘’It is alright.. Can I help you? That looks a little heavy for a little girl like you’’ he said. He probably didn’t mean it in a bad way but I could feel that I got a little angry because he called me little. I wasn’t little, I had a good size for my age. I frowned and shook my head. ‘’I can handle myself perfectly’’ I said stubborn and took my hand from the package of grapes. I took the one next to the one he was still holding. ‘’Bye..’’ I said and walked away with my hands full of fruit.
Aunt Charlene was waiting for me at the meat aisle and saw me tramping to her with my face on thunder. ‘’Oh ooh.. What happened?’’ she asked. ‘’Some stupid boy called me little’’ I said and she helped me putting everything in the card. ‘’Oh silly.. Are you sure he meant it the way you think?’’ she asked and I sighed. ‘’Probably not but I can handle myself perfectly!’’ I said and folded my arms together. ‘’Okay okay, now come on.. I know you want the next edition of the nurse watches you are collecting’’ aunt Charlene said and I looked at her. ‘’That is not coming in the stores until next week auntie’’ I said and she chuckled. ‘’That is why I am gonna sign you up for the collection so you won’t miss one’’ she said. A big smile appeared on my face and I hugged her tight. ‘’You know..’’ I said. ‘’What?’’ aunt Charlene asked. ‘’You are the best aunt someone can ask for!’’ I then said and hugged her tight.
After doing the grocery shopping, we went home and aunt Charlene started preparing for dinner and I helped. I took a knife and started cutting vegetables while aunt Charlene was seasoning the meat and making little balls from it. Uncle Charlie and the boys were back already when we returned and I saw them from the kitchen arm wrestle each other. ‘’Boys always want to do something with fighting..’’ I mumbled and aunt Charlene laughed. ‘’Boys are like that.. But there are also girls that are like that sweety.. Or are you gonna tell me now that a little wrestle isn’t fun’’ she asked and I smiled. ‘’Yeah it is.. But still, I don’t have to keep proving that I am stronger or faster than others all the time’’ I said and put the cut vegetables in a pan. Aunt Charlene chuckled again and kept her mouth shut for now, probably because she knew I would keep going on until she would give up.
Dinner was finished in two hours and I rang our bell to let everyone know they should head for the table. Then I sat down myself as aunt Charlene said she would put everything on the table. Uncle Charlie came walking in and smiling. ‘’Mm, pasta’’ he said and sat down. You wouldn’t think it but he was a real pasta-maniac and I chuckled a bit. ‘’Eeewww vegetables!’’ Dylan said and sighed. ‘’Don’t be such a whiner.. They are good for you’’ I said and Evan sat down silently. ‘’I am sure mom and Ashley made it taste awesome again’’ he simply stated and aunt Charlene chuckled. ‘’Well.. One of you at least payed attention’’ she said and uncle Charlie smiled. ‘’Oh I saw Ashley with the knife.. Why else would you think I didn’t make jokes?’’ he said with a grin and I stuck out my tongue at him. ‘’I wouldn’t have thrown it at you.. I would have grabbed pillows for that’’ I said while aunt Charlene was filling our plates.
After all the plates were empty, Evan and Dylan took everything to the kitchen and filled the dishwasher together. I went upstairs and took a shower and put on my pajamas's. Once done with that, I brushed my teeth and went down stairs for our family cuddle moment. As always my aunt and uncle already sat on the couch and I went to uncle Charlie with a hairbrush and a rubber band. ‘’Will you do my hair?’’ I asked and he chuckled. ‘’Of course’’ he said and he started brushing my blonde hair. It was funny to others but I really liked it if uncle Charlie did my hair. Aunt Charlene was also quite good with it but I could remember uncle Charlie actually going to a hairdresser with me to learn braiding and ponytails because aunt Charlene had a baby boom on her hands and since then I switched between who I would ask to do my hair because I knew they both liked it very much.
Somehow it felt like even though I knew they were not my real parents, they see me a little like their own daughter even though I say aunt and uncle. I don’t mind the idea because to me they are my parents even if I know they weren’t. I loved them with all my heart and would never want to trade them in for other people to live with. With that thought, I closed my eyes and could feel myself fall asleep in the arms of my uncle.
