I was far away enough to be safe but not far away enough to actually hear a neck break. I looked back and saw Daisy fall to the ground. I looked at Patricia and hoped she would dash forward but before she could, I saw John behind her. I wanted to scream but I was stopped by my wolf.
''Haven't you heard her order? She wants us to be safe.. So we can take care of that bundle of warmth against our chest.. Go to your family! Now!'' Ruby said and made me move towards my older brother and his mate.
''Charlene.. Where is..?'' George asked but saw the look on my face. ‘’I am sorry for your loss.. You are more than welcome to come back home...’’ He said and his wife nodded. ‘’Yes you are... We really miss our old pack doctor too’’ Isla said with a smile and I couldn’t help but shake my head with a little smile. ‘’Thank you for the offer and I gladly accept it..’’ I reply and hold Ashley close. ‘’Is that?’’ George asked and he suddenly looked really sad. ‘’Yes.. She is.. We need to hurry’’ I said and so we did. We quickly walked towards the car my brother had taken with him, I could see he didn’t come alone with his wife but had two wolves with him. I recognized them and patted each on the back. ‘’I hope you guys toughened up and are not afraid of needles anymore’’ I said and I could see one stiffen up a little.
We got into the car and George started the engine. ‘’What about Charlie?’’ Isla asked and I looked outside. ‘’He won’t come until the last one is dead..’’ I said and I knew my mate too good for that.
‘’Be careful sweetheart.. I don’t want to loose you too’’ I mind linked him and I waited for him to respond while George started to drive away.
‘’I’ll be coming to you soon.. I know when to stop the fight, let me gather our pack members’’ Charlie mind linked me back and I smiled.
‘’I guess Blue lake will grow quite a bit brother...’’ I said to him and George smiled. ‘’They are all welcome, and if they pledge loyalty I am fine but if they keep the loyalty to that little bundle against your chest.. I can understand’’ George said while he drove out of the forest and on to the main road. The two wolves stayed in the forest and secured that we wouldn’t be attacked.
A two hour drive later, I saw my old family home dooming up in the distance. We had entered the territory half a hour ago and were safe for sure. My family’s pack wasn’t big but we had quite a few good fighters and a lot of ally’s ready to come to our aid. I caught myself thinking about it as ‘we’ and ‘our’ as if I had never left this place. I had, for the love of my life and now I was back. It was weird but I also felt happy that my old pack and my family pack were ally’s to begin with.
George parked the car and I got out with Ashley. We were welcomed back by some very familiar faces, two of them my own sons from three and four years old. ‘’Mommy mommy! I’m so happy!’’ Evan said and hugged me from the side, he had noticed the baby right away and was careful. Dylan on the other hand was so enthusiastic that he wanted to jump on me right away but Evan stopped him. ‘’Watch out! Mommy has a baby in her arms!’’ he said to his older brother and they both turned to us. ‘’When did you get a baby?’’ Dylan asked. ‘’Well.. This is actually the daughter of Alpha Maurice and Luna Patricia..’’ I said and I could feel my eyes getting watery.
Evan and Dylan looked at the baby and then at me. ‘’We did feel a very sad feeling.. Are they stars in the sky?’’ Evan asked and I nodded. ‘’Yes sweety’’ I said and hugged him softly. Evan hugged me back and looked at Ashley. ‘’I.. Evan Moore.. Pledge my loyalty to you.. eh..’’ He said and looked at me. ‘’Ashley Jones’’ I whispered and he nodded. ‘’I pledge my loyalty to you Ashley Jones... You will be my alpha and I’ll follow you in any rack you give me’’ he said and I chuckled a bit. ‘’You are the sweetest’’ I said and Dylan rolled his eyes. ‘’Kiss up’’ he said and then ran away quickly followed by Evan. I got up and saw my mother.
‘’I am sorry for the loss of your pack sweety..’’ She said and I nodded. ‘’Thank you mom.. Do you have a crib for this little girl and formula?’’ I asked. ‘’Everything is ready the moment you called that Patty was in labor..’’ she said and I followed her inside.
Totally it took three days for the last wolves of the purple moon pack to come to the territory of my brothers pack. Charlie was one of the last to come home and he was limping quite a bit. When he finally came in sight of the pack house, our sons ran to him and jumped on the wolf that was their father. He dropped down and even though he was in a lot of pain, he still played a little with them before I reached them so I could tell them to go do their chores.
With a sad expression they went back into the house and I did a quick check up on Charlie and called the new pack doctor to come out. The last three days we have been working on a way to work together but we clearly had different ways of working with patients, but he was the official pack doctor and here I was actually nothing more than the Alpha’s sister playing doctor.
We carried Charlie to the office where he changed back and lay down on the bed. ‘’You will have to rest a lot..’’ I said and he looked at me with a sigh. ‘’If I have too..’’ he said and I gave him a look. ‘’No jokes Mister Moore’’ I said. ‘’Alright Misses Moore...’’ he responded. ‘’But I rather have you as my doctor... Or nurse’’ he said with a teasing smile and I rolled my eyes. ‘’How is she?’’ he then suddenly asked and I knew who he meant. ‘’She is fine.. Eats like Dylan could and once she is satisfied she sleeps and rarely fusses..’’ I explained and he seemed relieved. ‘’And the boys?’’ Charlie asked. ‘’Evan pledges loyalty to her.. Dylan seems a bit like the same with Evan, from a distance he is okay but up close he doesn’t like it all that much because she is still fragile’’ I explained. Charlie chuckled even though it seemed to hurt him. ‘’Rest now.. I’ll ask the doctor for some painkillers’’ I said and gave him a kiss. Charlie returned the kiss and when I let go he groaned because he wanted more. He wasn’t the only one but I had to go back.
I left the room and walked to the doctor. ‘’This patient is a hard one.. He will always try to not get painkillers because he doesn’t like them but my advice is to give them to him.. Or else you will have a ringing bell every ten minutes’’ I said and he looked up. ‘’I’ll take your advice on that then’’ he said and got up. ‘’Thank you Sam’’ I said and then walked away. ‘’You’re welcome Charlene.. And I’m glad you found happiness’’ Sam said and I nodded.
* 3 years later... Charlene P.O.V. *
I sat in the garden of the pack house, looking at my eight and seven year old sons playing with their three year old niece. ‘’Come Ashley, let’s play with the ball’’ Dylan says and the gives her the ball. Ever since Ashley started to get bigger, could sit and wasn’t depending on others to hold her, my oldest son started to warm up on her. Actually exactly the same as with his own little brother. The blonde toddler was holding the ball and threw it away. Evan catches it and then threw it at Dylan for him to catch. So they played a while until they heard the backdoor open up. ‘’Granny!’’ Dylan and Evan screamed at the same time. Suddenly they forgot about the little girl and ran towards their grandmother.
My parents had left the pack house two years ago and went to their own cottage on the territory. We did visit often but they always acted like they hadn’t seen their grandparents in years. ‘’Oh my big boys.. How are you two?’’ she asked. ‘’Good!’’ Dylan said and Evan nodded fast. ‘’Very good! We were playing with Ashley.. She is getting very big too!’’ he said proud. I could see he saw Ashley more as a sister than as a niece like we were telling them.
My mother looked up from her two grandsons and smiled at me. ‘’You look well.. How is Charlie?’’ she asked. ‘’He is okay, still hates it that the bacteria caused him to have a limping foot.. But he is his old self again’’ I said. It had taken quite a while for my mate to accept that he would not be running the way he used to but he knew he couldn’t help it. ‘’And how are you as the new midwife?’’ my mother asked. I couldn’t help but laugh. ‘’That is going perfectly actually..’’ I said. The moment we returned to my old pack, a new doctor had been assigned which was obvious, and having two doctors in one pack always causes a little rivalry. Since I didn’t want that, especially because Sam had always been my best friend growing up, I stood down and only helped when it was really necessary.
Yet, we found out one and a half year after we had returned, that Sam was a great doctor but wasn’t very good at delivering babies. Especially not when there was a little baby boom. I had helped him through it and after that George decided I would become the midwife and also get two assistants to help me out and teach how to help during childbirth.
‘’Well, that is good then.. I am glad you have found your way around the pack sweety’’ my mother said and I smiled happy. Suddenly a little hand took my finger and pulled it down a little. I looked down and smiled. ‘’Yes Ashley?’’ I asked. ‘’I.. I need to tinkle..’’ she said and I chuckled. ‘’Alright, I’ll help you’’ I said and walked with her to the bathroom.
When we returned, I saw my mother in the kitchen preparing some drinks for us all. ‘’Mom? I have the feeling something is wrong..’’ I said as I looked at her and placed Ashley down. The blonde toddler walked right away towards Dylan and Evan. My mother sighed and looked at me. ‘’Isn’t taking care of her hard on you? I mean.. After Evan you never could have more children and we know you wanted more than two’’ She said. I was surprised from this but could understand what she meant. ‘’Mom, I’ll assure you that Ashley is a delight to have around.. I take care of her as if she is my own.. And even though I teach her to say aunt and uncle, I do that because of my respect to her own parents’’ I explained. My mother seemed relieved by this and gave me a drink. ‘’Well, that is good to hear..’’ she responded and gave me a hug. I hugged her back and together we looked at the three children playing in the yard.
Life was good as we knew it and even though we didn’t know what the future would hold. I knew that with this pack and having each other, we could face anything the world would throw at us.
