I had never encountered such brazen and bizarre words, especially from a student I had instructed with sincerity. It was like taking a bite from an apple only to discover half a worm—revulsion that twisted my gut.
I was consumed by a fiery rage I couldn't contain. I slapped Yolanda. "Do you even realize you’re the other woman? Is this how your parents taught you to behave?!"
Fenton shielded Yolanda behind him and kicked me in the stomach, sending me flying backward, crashing into the office door with a resounding thud.
"Liana, can you stop being so vicious? And now you’re hitting people! You’re using my parents to threaten me. What do you want, a pregnancy? What haven’t I agreed to for you? Don’t you know I’m childfree? Do you even deserve to be a teacher? Family, you dare mention family! Do you not know your own student's family situation? How long are you going to keep this up?! I’ve given you chances, haven’t I? You can’t have kids of your own, so you a***e your position as a teacher to hurl insults at your students?"
He cursed as he hit. As the attacks continued, my mind floated in a mist of agony. Yet no physical pain could match the torment in my heart.
"Have I spoiled you too much? ‘The other woman,’ is that really necessary? How dare you, a woman so full of venom, claim to educate?" Fenton continued.
The commotion drew the attention of doctors and nurses, who poked their heads out of the office, too stunned by the scene to pass judgment, and they managed to subdue Fenton, who was both shouting and lashing out. "Talk it out! This is a hospital! Not a place for fighting!"
A nurse screamed, "Dr. Lyne! There's a hemorrhage!"
I was still groggy from the anesthesia when the door to my hospital room flew open, and a horde of reporters armed with cameras swarmed in.
The leading reporter smiled apologetically, though his words dripped with venom. "Ms. Lind, we're from Vibecast Live Broadcast. We got a tip from one of our followers that you caused a scene at the hospital, even attacked a pregnant woman. Is that what went down, or is this just some wild rumor?"
The nurse beside him chimed in, "She was the one who started it! Our colleagues in the outpatient department even snapped photos yesterday. This woman just lunged at the pregnant woman and started hitting her."
The reporter in the live broadcast perked up at the mention of the evidence, their interest piqued, and the camera zoomed in on a few masked nurses. "Could you tell us more about what happened yesterday?"
The nurses exchanged furtive glances, their courage bolstered by the anonymity of their masks.
"We're from the inpatient department, so we didn't see it firsthand, but the outpatient department checked the surveillance. This woman delivered a slap to the pregnant lady right outside the clinic."
"Yeah, the husband was right there too. No man’s gonna stand by and watch his pregnant wife get hit. Of course, he was gonna fight back. Now, they've lost the baby, and they're stuck here."
"Seems like she might have some kind of mental issue, maybe got triggered by seeing the other woman with her husband. And get this, she’s supposed to be one of our city’s top teachers."
A nearby nurse, realizing they were revealing patient privacy, gave her colleague a sharp nudge as a reminder and pulled her away. "Sorry to cut this short, but we’ve got other patients to attend to. That’s all we know."
The trailing reporter hurriedly took a few steps forward, disappointed to see the nurses leave but not forgetting about me, the central figure. They closed in on me like a pack of wolves, each question growing increasingly cunning and sharp.
I still cared about them—one was my husband, the other my student. This scandal was utterly disheartening, but there was no need to ruin lives online. I rasped out, "Who made the report, exactly? I think there might be some misunderstanding between us."
Fenton stormed in with determination. "It was me. As Liana’s husband, I’m the one who reported her. I’m making a formal accusation against Liana for causing a disturbance at the hospital and assaulting her pregnant student."
