Every smile at work drilled my headache even deeper. Spending a night with a whole wine bottle to yourself really causes the worst hangovers. I drank so much lemon water, I could feel it coursing through my veins. My mother came for breakfast again, judgment obvious when she noticed my hungover state. She was oddly chipper as she sat down for a large plate of sausage and pancakes. "What are you so happy about?" I asked while pouring her a cup of coffee. "Oh, nothing. I just forgot how fun small towns can be," she answered, and I wondered what she had been up to. I enjoyed the people here and my day-to-day life, but I wouldn't describe the place as fun, it was more just peaceful.
