The thud echoed, a warning shot, loud and low, making my chest tighten. The lights flickered briefly, followed by a strange silence, then a burst of chaos outside the heavy doors.
Alex went rigid beside me, his hands still bound, eyes darting toward the source. Mira Vale stiffened, too, her lips parting as she turned to the door.
Another bang. Something, or someone slammed against the entrance, hard enough to make the frame quake.
“What the hell is that?” Alex growled.
Mira Vale sprang forward, fumbling with the locks. “I...I don’t know, I swear...”
But she didn’t get the chance to secure anything.
The door crashed open.
