“I’m going out with Damien, he wants to show me around the office,” I lied to my mom when she asked me where I was headed.
A bright smile spread across her face. “I’m so happy for you, you’re going to get a big girl job.”
I forced an awkward laugh. “Yes, mom.”
A few minutes later, Damien and I were on our way to a hospital. I had no idea where he was taking me and I didn’t bother to ask.
Throughout the ride, I didn’t say a word to him, even though he sat beside me in the backseat.
He didn’t say anything either.
I guess he didn’t want the driver to overhear our conversation.
