CHAPTER 7 Face Off Ladouche and I appeared in an amusement park. In front of us was a square filled with people and mascots. The aromas of popcorn, cotton candy, and caramel hit me like a sledgehammer. Above, a roller coaster crested a hill and then plummeted, screams trailing behind it. I had been to this park many times as a kid, but this time, it wasn’t for fun. Ladouche pointed to a reflective blue dome in front of us. “She’s in Studio 17.” A plastic pass appeared in my hand. It read: Face Off Audition Pass B. McFerrin “Wait,” I said. “Face Off is a game show. You’re making me audition for a game show?” Ladouche laughed and left me in a passing wave of tourists.
