My two o'clock turned out to be Nicholas, Nicholas Temple and I were kind of enemies. Civil enemies, so to say. We were both two good-looking guys with money and believed we could have anyone and anything we wanted. Our parents were old friends and did business together once in a while. I'm not sure why I hated Nicholas, but his looks and pockets were probably on the list.
And the tiny fact that in the seven years I was married to Zuri, she showed more interest in him than she ever did in me.
Damn, my wife of seven years, whom I actually hadn't even slept with, was more interested in this asshole than her own husband. At functions and events when they thought no one was looking, they would laugh and play coy around each other and man. It used to drive me insane. Especially when, even after all this time, I still didn't know what they would be talking about. I'm not being petty, but I would honestly like to know.
So yeah, I hate this guy.
Okay, the guy was good-looking too. Like very good-looking. I knew when to appreciate another guy, and no, I wasn't gay by any chance. I just knew he was good-looking and my musculinity was still intact despite that admission.
And he had money. It's true, I came from old money, but this guy and his family practically worked for everything they had. Actually, he had more money than I did, to add to his other faults.
"Temple, delightful" I gritted out, my poor jawline taking the hit.
"Gregory, I see your mouth hasn't left your ass yet". See what I mean. I didn't so much as bother with a handshake and just sat at the opposite end of the boardroom. Jason...
"Where is Jason?" I turned around to look when I couldn't feel his presence. Because as my business partner on this project he had to be there and present for the meeting. Jason, to my annoyance, was just entering the room with his stupid cocky lucky tonight smile, meaning, between the time we took to get here, he had encountered a lady that he liked and actually secured a number.
Idiot. I thought while trying not to give my stupid best friend a glare that could wipe that smirk off his face. Jason just rolled his eyes at me and turned to look at our guest, but froze where he stood. Like freaking actually froze, then looked at me, then back at Nicholas, then at the floor. His stupid cheeks and ears turned a bright red. I frowned at his behavior. I had known Jason for so many years I couldn't even remember anymore. And the guy I was raised with never blushed or got shy. Heck, I never saw this i***t even pull off an ashamed look when he got caught banging a married woman last summer. But apparently, today was that day.
I turned to look at Nicholas when Jason finally snapped out of whatever dream he was and started making his way over to the chair next to mine. Nicholas, to his credit, had his poker face intact. He always wore a bored or indifferent face in public. Not that I saw much of him when we were young, but for the longest time I have known him, he rarely if ever smiled.
Kind of reminds me of somebody. Me.
Guess we were more alike than we thought.
"The cars need reassembling, I'm told? " Nick asked, his deep voice resounding in the otherwise quiet room, not even giving me time to introduce Jason.
"This is Jason Mitchell from the manufacturing company who will handle the shipments and everything associated with your shipment order". My voice managed to remain civil despite how I actually just wanted to throw him through the roof.
Nicholas looked at Jason and, to my utter embarrassment, Jason, my stupid best friend for years, blushed and looked away like a shy school girl. And if that wasn't enough, Nicholas cleared his throat and took a sip of the water my staff had so kindly provided. A little smirk at the corners of his lips.
I didn't know Jace swung both ways. Not that I actually cared to even know, because Jason could sleep with anything with two legs.
But damn. This is embarrassing. I wish I was anywhere but here right now.
And so I cleared my throat and looked at Jason with my don't f**k with me look. Jace still looked like he had just met the love of his life and yet managed to open his stupid mouth at least.
"Hi, umh yeah..." He stuttered but got hold of himself and went into details about everything regarding the shipment and how the company was going to reassemble the vehicles and whatnot.
"Okay, so as Mitchell distributors we can have them ready by Friday noon. Hence, your people can get in touch on Friday morning." Jason finished his presentation like he wasn't stuttering like a school girl just a few minutes ago, full business mode back on.
"Hm okay then, I'll have my people set up an appointment for Friday morning". Nicolas rose to his feet, indicating that the meeting was over.
I didn't bother with handshake formalities because I knew he wasn't going to shake my hand either so I observed the two from my seat as they exchanged handshakes with googly eyes, well... Jason had the stupid f**k me look back on, while Nick just gave him a bored penetrating stare.
I sighed and stood up to leave when the handshake seemed like it would take forever. I had better things to do than see my best friend and enemy f**k in my boardroom.
"Might want to take it to the restroom, my marketing team is having a meeting here in the next few minutes". I lied just to piss off Nick. And in true Nicolas fashion, a f**k off was heard a few seconds later as I closed the door, and didn't that evoke a smirk on my face all the way back to my office with glee.
