A pang hit me. She must’ve been so lonely. All by herself in a foreign county. No family. Probably too afraid of being found out to make real friends, at least in the beginning. And yet, it was her own f*****g fault. How could she do this to me? My best friend, my lover, the person I promised to spend the rest of my life with. Not knowing what else to do, I perched on the edge of the bed, putting my head between my knees. Christa rubbed my back. For a moment, I let her, but it was all too much.
