7 Celyn tugged his knife from the holder on his belt and thrust it at Thomas, hilt first. The path where they had seen the Mercians was empty now, the trees in silent vigil along its length. “Take it,” he said. “It may not be of any use, but if the demons appear again, at least you will have a blade.” A chill ran through Thomas at the thought. He hadn’t thought of that possibility when he insisted Celyn take him back to the place he had found him. Why did they appear in the first place? Did they want me to come here?
