Chapter Twelve

1635 Words
Jaycie’s POV:           We went into the formal dining room, I was wondering why we were going into a private dining room.  Aren’t we eating with the pack?  I was relieved and disappointed at the same time.  On the one hand, I didn’t have to meet his family with everyone watching, and on the other, I was excited to start meeting members of the pack.             I looked around and wondered where I was sitting.  Which family do I walk to?  As I was debating this in my head, I felt a hand take mine, and another hand went around my waist.  I looked up and saw Cooper smiling at me.  He whispered, “Come, my little Future Luna, your seat is over here”, and stirred me over to sit between him and Gabby.  At least, that’s what the place cards showed.             As soon as I was seated, I saw Danny and Cooper stand up, followed by the Alphas.  I look to the door, and I see Gabby standing there, and she looks stunning.  Cooper whistled at her and told her how good she looked.  There were murmurs all around the table referencing her beauty.  The men sat down again as soon as she was seated, and I noticed Danny was still standing there just gaping at her.  My mom lightly tugged his sleeve and brought him out of whatever fog he was in.  Her father had stayed standing as well and introduced Gabby to the table.  I smiled at Gabby.  I was so excited to have a sister.  I hope she considers me a sister after a while.  I don’t want to overwhelm her though.           My mother asked Gabby about her health.  I wanted to know this as well.  She said she was getting better, but she also mentioned she had no wolf.  I admire her for how strong she is.  Her voice is unwavering.  I looked over at Danny and he was just staring at her, but I could tell he was miserable.  I felt so badly for him.             Gabby questioned her father about whether we would be joining the rest of the pack for dessert or not.  Her dad answered yes, and then answered her unspoken question and told her he wasn’t sure how her health would turn out, so he made the first part private so she didn’t feel crowded and put upon by the constant questions.             After Gabby thanked her dad for his consideration, she turned and told me she was ecstatic to have a sister!  I was overjoyed, but before I could start talking to her about the millions of things swirling in my head, she asked about how Cooper’s and my relationship was going.  I couldn’t help but blurt out, “I love him so much already.  We have been talking on the phone a lot and I’m so excited to start our lives together”.  Then Cooper just had to bring us to the gutter by saying conspiratorially, “Yes, especially the nights”, while squeezing my thigh under the table.  I had to struggle to not jump or squeak when he did that.  I am going to have my hands full later, literally and figuratively.             All the couples were appreciating having each other, lost in their mate for a few minutes.  I looked over at Danny to make sure he was okay, and he looked miserable.  I know how much he regrets what happened between him and Gabby.  He told me the whole story, including what that rank bunny told him about her.  I checked with my brother’s Beta, who goes to a lot of these parties, and he hadn’t heard anything even resembling the poison Cindy whispered into Danny’s ear.            As the end of the meal nears, I thought Danny’s eyes were glistening, but he looked down, and by the time he brought his eyes up, he had schooled his face into his regular Alpha poker face.  He had withdrawn into his Alpha persona, and I knew that he wasn’t actually present mentally.  How was I going to convince him to come to the after-party meeting, when he was locking himself away from hurt and rejection?  I want to get them together.  Danny knows how stupid and rash his careless act toward Gabby was, so I hope he can make up and move on with her.   ********* Cooper’s POV:           My little luna looks so amazingly sexy, and I cannot wait until later when I can take her to bed and make her scream my name.  I was sitting down at the table when I rose again because I saw the gorgeous sight of my sister entering the room.  She looked so good, and it made me happy for her to see her up and about and feel good about herself.  I whistled at her and everybody else in the room told her how breathtaking she was.             I was so focused on Jaycie, I wasn’t paying much attention to what was happening at the table.  But I am also the son of Alpha Stone, and he taught me how to listen to conversations while having my own.  I heard the Blood Fang Luna ask my sister how she was feeling.  As my sister gave her answer, I wondered if she actually cared, or if she was trying to gauge how much crap she would have to shovel to get her son out of the hole that their family may be in.  Start shoveling lady.           Gabby just mentioned how she didn’t have her wolf.  There was a sense of sadness, of loss, and one more thing…resolve?   I was heartbroken from hearing the sadness in her voice.  When I detected the hint of certain decision, I was confused.  How can she exhibit sadness and yet still have a feeling of confidence?  I concentrated within my mind on her emotions.  I was getting muddled feelings.  Jaycie was feeling in love and she was horny, and Gabby…yep, resolve.  What does she have planned?  Why didn’t she ask me for help?  I would have done anything to make sure that the bastard sitting across from us at the table staring at my sister like a p*****t, was taken down.  My sister deserves a mate so much better than him.           I had him checked out a little.  All in all, we seemed to be a lot alike.  We might have been great friends.  Too bad he’s a dirtbag.  One glaring difference is that he acquainted himself with someone like Cindy Foxx.  Apparently, he was seen arriving at the party with and spending time together with, Cindy.  When I looked at the file on her, it showed she is from Danny’s pack.  She also likes to hang around with a lot of other ranked wolves among the different packs.  It seems she obtains gossip and information from these guys and then uses it to make gains for her own gains.           My father was currently informing my sister of the decision he and I made together yesterday after much deliberation.  We had decided to make the dinner part a private affair, while dessert will be with the rest of the pack.  We figured she wouldn’t want to deal with all the questions she would get.  I understand that they have the best of intentions, and their support is appreciated, but I know my sister, and she will not want any attention from this.  Anyway, we figure that the less time Gabby is in front of a group will trim down the stress she will have to experience.  We could not figure out a way to cut down on her exposure to HIM.             Dad wanted to tell them we will not acknowledge Danny, but after I reminded him that could lead to losing pack members from enemy attacks, he backed down.  I wanted to try to get Jaycie to talk him out of coming, but when I presented my plan to her, she got upset and her love for her brother crossed that possibility off the list.  We considered some other options, but none of them were feasible, so once we heard she was awake and okay, we decided to just keep her stress to a minimum.  We got Tessa to help her get ready, and when one of us isn’t with her, Beta Thomas or Gamma Gregory will be.  We also agreed that we will have someone kind of shadow, or follow, Danny.  We did not want to go after their pack or anything like that; we wouldn’t want innocent people to be hurt in any way.             My ears then caught the melodious voice of my love saying, “I love him so much already.  We have been talking on the phone a lot and I’m so excited to start our lives together”.  My thoughts quickly dove to the gutter and I squeezed her thigh, and as my hand started to roam further, I said, “Especially the nights”.  This led to my dad grinning, the Lunas smirking, the Ravenwood men growling, and Jaycie looking shocked and turning red.  Then it led to some disturbing words between my parents that I refuse to think about, so I spent the next few minutes concentrating on the light of my life.             Once Jaycie pried my hand from her thigh, I took her hand and helped her up.  We waited for everyone else to rise and then proceeded to where the second part of the celebration was taking place.  I wrapped my arm around my girl’s waist and pulled her more into my side.  I never want to let her go, especially after she looked up at me with such happiness in her eyes and a big grin on those luscious lips of hers.  Tonight cannot come fast enough for me.
