Chapter 5

Gareth's POV She's beautiful. I thought aloud and immediately switched off the engine of the car. I parked the car in the garage and couldn't carry my legs out of the car due to how lazy I felt. While reminiscing on the events of the day, I laughed in between and felt agitated at the same time. I remembered how I caught her unawares, the embarrassment that was written all over her face when she realised I was the manager, and how frequently I had caught her stealing glances at me. "Women!" I exclaimed, coming out of the car and locking it. The gateman was already on standby to get the car keys from me and carry out his usual morning duties, which entailed washing the car. "Good evening, Sir." "Yeah, Benson, how are you doing?" "I'm fine, sir," he prostrated, and he brought out his hands to get the car keys as usual. "No, don't worry. The car isn't dirty; I'll use it tomorrow. Is Ryan in?" "Yes, sir, he arrived in the afternoon." "Oh, okay, goodnight then." "Goodnight, sir," he said, giving his final words and leaving. Ryan, my elder brother, had just returned from his long vacation. The house was one of our dad's properties, and the old man handed it over to us. We all had one thing in common: life with women. Dad was worse; he passed it down to Gareth, and although Ryan carries the same trait, his is moderate. I walked into the parlour and found Ryan playing a video game. "Hey, bro," he greeted. "Hey, lover boy," I teased with his eyes still fixed on the television screen. "Oh, come on, has any lady come to accuse me of being unfaithful?" I asked, resting my back on the sofa. "The gateman didn't inform you that someone came looking for you today," he asked comically. "Who?" I asked curiously. "Bella!" "Mtchew. Please tell me something better." Ryan gave out a hard, long, and annoying laugh. "Where were you off to?" "I had a meeting with someone, a lady, actually." I intentionally added the fact that it was a lady to get him intrigued. "You and women, will there ever be an end?" "Well, till I find my woman." "That's what you said about a year ago. So tell me about the lady; is there a possibility?" "I don't know. I invited her for an interview. She's a year older, but her physique is perfect," I complimented, biting my lips. "But she's really not my type," I concluded, my face morphing into a friend. "So you're going to hit and run as usual?" "I'll observe her for a while, then I'll decide what to do with her." "You're talking like she's an object, or worse yet, a piece of paper." "Whatever," I yawned. "I bought some food on my way down here. It's in the microwave; you could have some. Your kitchen is lacking the touch of a woman. Please either hire a cook or get a woman." "I wish I had a reply for that," I concluded and headed to the kitchen. Ryan can be a pain in the ass sometimes. Although their dad is still alive, Ryan is placed in charge of his other businesses. While I run my own business, the fashion industry is where I rule. Alicia's POV I walked into the parlour like a walking corpse and dropped myself like a log of wood on the sofa. "Mummy, welcome," my daughter ran immediately with sheer excitement, giving me a peck on the cheek like she always did. "Thank you, love. How are you doing?" I asked, carrying her in my arms. I watched her struggle to have a conversation with me in the little language she was able to comprehend. She was slowly looking like her father, John. "Mummy, Maddie taught me how to recite the letters of the alphabet today." "Wow, so you can now read from A-Z, right?" "Yes, mummy," she replied, showing me her book. Since there wasn't money to fund her education, Maddie and I had taken it upon ourselves to give her both formal and informal education, and she was catching up really fast. "Dinner is ready," Maddie announced, bringing out a tray of food to the parlour. Juanita ran out of my care and headed for the dining table. "Welcome girl, you look like you've been mopping the ocean all day." Maddie mocked. "I really did mop an ocean today." I chuckled She came to the sofa chair, gave me a pat on the back, and sat with me. "So how did it finally go?" "Well, I met with the manager, and the embarrassment was top-notch. She gave out a loud laugh and beckoned for me to continue. "I was taken to the room where the interview was supposed to be held. I got lost in admiration, and the manager caught me in the act," I laughed, narrating my ordeal. "I'm sure he was wondering what kind of lady was coming for the interview," she giggled. "We got talking, and I began feeling uncomfortable. But Maddie, the man is loaded." "Loaded as in how?" "He's so fine. I stole glances at him severally, and I'm afraid he may have caught me at some point. I'm guessing he would be five feet tall; he has thin sandy hair, brown eyes, and an earnest pedantic manner." I began my usual delusions. "I thought it was a job interview you went for? "Who knows, you could use a stone to catch two birds." "I doubt he would even look at you in the same way." "I know right; I wouldn't even expect him to. But something was a bit off and strange." "What was that?" "It appeared he knew so much more about me than what I had written on my CV." "Why say so?" "I don't know, but he kept asking why I relocated." "That's strange." "He even confirmed I was staying with a friend and finally ask ed if I had a child." "What was your response?" I became mute, turned, and looked at Juanita, innocently savouring her dinner.
