277 Words
Laraba met her husband Mukhtar and a simple marriage rites were conducted. He was good to her. They were best of friends even. They both understood what it meant to have loved and lost so over time they formed a bond. Despite this however, Mukhtar watched life drain from Laraba’s eyes even as he began to fall in love with her. Before it could go any further, Mukhtar decided to let her go. Following the tenets of the most prominent school of Fiqh in Nothern Nigeria- ‘Maliki School’, he granted her a divorce. As he said the last Talaq, he cried while all his ex-wife could do was to stare vacantly into space. She was so lost. ‘Go find him Lara’ He said as he drew her in for a last hug. ‘Thank you Mukhtar’ ‘I have arranged for everything you need’ ‘Muk..’ ‘Don’t say a word, you’d accept it, I’d make sure you do’ ‘Then you are not fully letting me go’ ‘What kind of man would I be if I left you empty handed. You have worked for these things. You deserve them’ ‘Okay Mukhtar’ Mukhtar could see that his ex was sinking into the quagmire of depression and didn’t know how to help her. This was the hardest thing he had to do yet. When she left, all he could do was beseech Almighty Allah to protect her life as he recited all the Sutras he could think of bowing his head to the ground.
