CHAPTER SEVEN- 2
-BORIS-
The door closed behind Weldon and Thorin, leaving me alone with Wilhelmina. Her red eyes bore into mine, unblinking, and for the first time since I had known her, she seemed taller. Stronger. Like an indomitable force. The sight of her, unwavering, made a strange sensation flicker in my chest.
"Mina, you didn't mean that, did you." I said. My statement sounded more like a command, which it was, rather than a question. But there was an unexpected worry underneath my tone.
"I did," she held my gaze steadily. "And it's not a request; it's an ultimatum. Either you break off the engagement with Severa, or I ruin this pack." Her voice was ice-cold, her conviction unwavering.
I studied her face for signs of falsehood but found none. The defiant spark in her eyes was the same one I had adored over the years, only this time it was burning brighter and fiercer.
My eyes narrowed as a sly grin spread across my face. "You can't be serious," I said playfully. "Why don't you come over here so we can continue what your brother interrupted?"
Wilhelmina walked to the door, and locked it. She turned back to me, her expression still defiant. I smiled widely. Wilhelmina looked breathtakingly beautiful. From her shimmering white hair to her curvaceous figure, everything about her exuded grace and elegance.
"And what?" she spat, crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes. "Do you wish to persuade me into submission like you did with Severa?"
"I have already done that, technically speaking," I responded. "However, convincing you was a much harder task compared to Severa. Simply threatening her family was enough for her to comply. But with you, I knew that approach wouldn't work. That's why I had to resort to using the Alpha's Order."
Her eyes flashed as I mentioned the Alpha's Order, an authoritative command that could not be disobeyed. I could see her knuckles whiten as she clenched her fists, her mouth setting into a hard line.
"Tactics of a coward," she seethed, her voice just above a whisper.
"You call it cowardly," I grinned. "But I prefer the term as strategic planning. Just like I planned during the Alpha Games."
Even if my mother came up with most of those plans, I thought, my smirk only growing wider.
Wilhelmina stalked over to me. I swiveled in my seat to meet her. The desire to pull her onto my lap and discipline her coursed through me like a wildfire. But that would have to wait for our wedding night, when I would finally have the she-wolf of my fantasies and the one that had slipped away from me.
Lost in my own thoughts, I was caught off guard when Wilhelmina suddenly yanked me out of my chair by my collar. I barely had time to register what was happening before she slammed me against the wall. Burning with unbridled anger, her eyes pierced through me like an icy chill. A shiver ran down my back as I met her gaze, the intense red of her eyes searing into my soul. I swallowed hard, not wanting to show any fear. My mother had always drilled into me that I should never show anyone my fears.
"Pay attention, Boris," she warned, her words sharp as a blade. Her eyes locked onto mine without faltering. "You can do whatever you want to me, but if you ever harm Severa or anyone else, I will bring this pack crashing down."
I c****d an eyebrow, putting on a brave face despite the sudden surge of fear that her words evoked. "You must have forgotten that I am the Alpha, and the Alpha can do as he pleases." I challenged, my laughter echoing in the room.
But to my surprise, she stayed put, staring at me with an unwavering gaze, her fiery eyes blazing with an intensity that could rival the sun. "An Alpha you may be, Boris," she said, her voice taking on a steely edge that set my teeth on edge. "But you were only crowned because you cheated. With your underhanded strategies and dishonorable tactics."
"You must have forgotten your place?" I snarled, the subtle timbre of my voice vibrating beneath her words. "You are my fiancé, my soon to be wife and Luna, you can't just throw around baseless accusations like that."
I tried loosening her grasp on my collar, however it was unyielding as if they were made of iron. Wilhelmina was not oblivious to my unsuccessful effort to break free, and she responded by increasing her grip on me. A strong aura of dominance emanated from her, making it clear that she was in control. I had always felt her dominance, but in this moment it was overwhelming.
Wilhelmina swiftly turned us around and forcefully shoved me onto the ground. Grimacing, I felt a sharp ache shoot through my back. But I ignored it and pushed myself off the ground. However, my efforts were halted as Wilhelmina planted her foot firmly on my shoulder.
"Remember this, Boris," she said, her voice low and dangerous. "I am not your plaything. I am the Luna of the Gravemaw Hounds, and you can't just use me as you please."
I grunted and tried to shrug off her foot but found it impossible to move. She was applying just enough pressure to keep me pinned down without causing searing pain. My muscles strained under her weight, my body yearning for freedom but every desperate attempt was effectively restrained.
"I will not be intimidated by you," I grated out between clenched teeth, attempting again to push her foot off.
"You should be," she warned, her gaze demanding submission. "Are you aware that the Luna holds the highest respect in the pack? In most cases, she is even more respected than the Alpha himself."
"You underestimate me." I growled. My heart pounded in my chest like a war drum, adrenaline surging through my veins, fueling my desire for dominance. But Wilhelmina's influence was too strong, her authority too convincing.
"Oh really?" she smirked slightly, the fire in her eyes dancing with amusement. "I will earn the respect of the pack, and once I have their support, I will overthrow you and take control of the pack that should have been mine."
"Over my cold, lifeless body," I replied, my eyes unblinking as I glared up at her. The pressure on my shoulder increased slightly as her foot pushed down harder. It was a clear sign of her authority.
"That can be arranged," she threatened.
My heart beat faster, as the gravity of her words echoed in my mind. But I refused to be intimidated. This was my pack, my legacy. I would not let it slip away so easily.
A cold smile curved her lips, "Until then enjoy your position as the Alpha because it won't last much longer."
Wilhelmina stepped off me, offering me the chance to rise. I staggered to my feet while Wilhelmina walked out of my office without another word. I was now alone in my office, filled with burning anger. Her words rang in my mind. I had witnessed the power dynamic firsthand from my parents.
My father was always busy, either buried in paperwork or training with the Sentinels. It was a rare occurrence to see him anywhere outside of his office or the training area. Seeing him at events was an even more uncommon sight.
My mother was just as busy, though her responsibilities focused on attending public events. Her tasks revolved around diplomacy, keeping the harmony within the pack while forming alliances with other packs. She was regarded as the pack's matriarch, with her wisdom.
There was a knock at the door, and my mother walked in with Elder Greymane. Their faces mirrored my fury.
"My son," my mother began, her voice strained with anger. "What happened? What did that wench say?"
I clenched my jaw, recalling Wilhelmina's audacious claim. "Mina has challenged my authority, Mother. She wants to take over the pack, using the respect and influence she holds as Luna," I confessed, the words tasting like poison.
Elder Greymane grunted in dissatisfaction, his wrinkled hands curling into fists. "She has no right," he growled, his eyes glinting dangerously. "The audacity of this woman... the pack can't operate with a woman in charge... such treachery."
My mother's gaze hardened, "We must do something about her. A challenge like that cannot go without punishment. We must protect the Gravemaw legacy."
I nodded resolutely, my anger morphing into steely resolve. "Agreed."
"I may have a plan," my mother said firmly. Her eyes, once filled with rage, now twinkled with mischief and cunning. She started pacing, her thoughts far away, probably already devising an elaborate scheme to maintain my rightful position as Alpha.
