Chapter 6 - Relief

501 Words
Jacob's heart raced as Lily spoke. He knew she was right, but he couldn't shake the feeling of jealousy. "I know you love me, Lily, and I love you too," he said. "It's just that...I don't know, I feel like Ethan is always there, trying to get between us." Lily's voice softened. "Jacob, Ethan is just a friend. I'm not interested in him like that. I'm interested in you. You're the one I love, the one I want to be with." Jacob felt a wave of relief wash over him. He knew that Lily was telling the truth, and that she loved him. But the jealousy didn't go away entirely. He still felt like Ethan was a threat to their relationship, and he didn't know how to make it go away. Over the next few weeks, Jacob tried to focus on his relationship with Lily. They went on dates, talked on the phone, and spent time together whenever they could. But he couldn't shake the feeling of jealousy. Whenever he saw Lily and Ethan together, he felt like he was losing her. One day, Jacob decided to talk to Ethan. He found him sitting alone in the library, reading a book. "Hey, Ethan," he said. Ethan looked up from his book. "Hey, Jacob, what's up?" "I just wanted to talk to you for a minute," Jacob said. "I know Lily's been hanging out with you a lot lately, and I just wanted to make sure we're all on the same page." Ethan raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" "I mean, Lily and I are together," Jacob said. "We're in a relationship. I just wanted to make sure that you're not trying to get between us." Ethan looked surprised. "Jacob, I'm not interested in Lily like that," he said. "We're just friends. I didn't know you were feeling jealous." Jacob felt a little foolish. Maybe he was overreacting. "I'm sorry, Ethan," he said. "I just...I don't know. I feel like I'm losing her to you." Ethan put a hand on Jacob's shoulder. "I get it, man," he said. "But you don't have to worry. Lily loves you, and she's not interested in me like that. I'm just a friend. I promise." Jacob nodded, feeling a little better. Maybe he was overreacting, but he couldn't help the way he felt. "Thanks, Ethan," he said. "I appreciate it." As the days went on, Jacob tried to focus on his relationship with Lily. He knew that she loved him, and he loved her. But he still couldn't shake the feeling of jealousy. Whenever he saw Lily and Ethan together, he felt like he was losing her. One day, Jacob decided to talk to Lily again. "Hey, can we talk for a minute?" he said. "Sure, what's up?" Lily said. "I know I've been acting crazy lately," Jacob said. "But I can't help feeling like Ethan is trying to steal you away from me. I know it's irrational, but I just can't shake the feeling."
