Jacob was trying to move past his jealousy and focus on his relationship with Lily. They had been dating for a few months, and everything seemed to be going well. But Jacob couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
One day, Jacob asked Lily to meet him after school. He wanted to talk to her about something important. When they sat down on a bench in the park, Jacob took a deep breath and looked at Lily.
"Lily, I need to ask you something," Jacob said.
"What is it?" Lily said.
"Are you still hanging out with Ethan?" Jacob asked.
Lily looked down at her feet. "Yes, I am," she said quietly.
Jacob's heart sank. "Why? I thought we talked about this. I thought we agreed that he was a threat to our relationship."
Lily took a deep breath. "Jacob, I have to tell you something," she said. "I've been lying to you. Ethan and I are more than just friends. We've been seeing each other behind your back."
Jacob felt like he had been punched in the stomach. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. "What? How long has this been going on?" he asked.
"A few weeks," Lily said. "I'm so sorry, Jacob. I didn't mean for this to happen. I just...I don't know. I started to have feelings for Ethan, and I couldn't help myself."
Jacob felt like he was going to be sick. The girl he loved had lied to him and cheated on him with his biggest rival. He didn't know what to do or how to react. "I can't believe this," he said. "How could you do this to me, Lily? How could you break my trust like that?"
"I know, Jacob. I'm sorry. I know I messed up," Lily said, tears streaming down her face. "But I had to tell you. I couldn't keep lying to you. I care about you, Jacob. I don't want to hurt you anymore."
Jacob stood up from the bench, feeling numb. "I don't know what to say, Lily. I need some time to think about this," he said.
Lily looked up at him, her eyes pleading. "Please, Jacob, don't hate me. I still care about you. I still love you," she said.
Jacob shook his head. "I don't know if I can believe anything you say anymore, Lily. You lied to me, you cheated on me. I trusted you, and you broke that trust. I don't know if we can fix this."
With that, Jacob turned and walked away, leaving Lily alone on the bench, sobbing.
For the next few days, Jacob was in a fog. He didn't know what to do or how to feel. He was heartbroken, angry, and confused. He couldn't believe that the girl he loved had lied to him and cheated on him with Ethan.
Eventually, Jacob decided to confront Ethan. He found him in the hallway at school and walked up to him, his fists clenched.
"You son of a b***h," Jacob said. "How could you do this to me? How could you sleep with Lily behind my back?"
Ethan looked up at Jacob, surprised. "What are you talking about, man?" he said.
"Don't play dumb, Ethan. Lily told me everything. She said you two have been seeing each other behind my back. How could you do this to me? I thought we were friends," Jacob said, his voice shaking with anger.
Ethan looked at Jacob, his face serious. "Jacob, I swear to you, I didn't know she was with you. She never told me,"
