Cedarcrest Manor
"I'm back," Ashford announced as he strolled into the manor, a wide grin on his face.
I looked up, my eyes meeting his, before drifting to the two guards positioned at the door, who looked like they were ready to pounce the moment something went wrong.
“What's up with them?” I asked.
Ashford slung his jacket over the back of the chair before settling down.
“My brother insisted. For our protection."
“Protection against what exactly?” I frowned.
“Well, I don't know, just protection, I guess."
I gave him a suspicious look but decided not to ask anymore. Instead, I turned back to my note and continued writing."
Ashford leaned forward, a curious look on his face. “What's up with you? You're not acting like your usual self today".
