I stopped at the entrance of the mountain pass, leaning forward to examine the snow-covered tracks that extended through the peaks.
But just like before, there were no marks, no trail, and no scent to follow. The heavy snowfall had erased all the evidence and clues that might have led me to the monster's whereabouts.
I had been searching for hours, but it seemed Lady Luck was against me today. I pushed myself to my feet, brushing the snow off my coat as the sun began to set. I had been out here for too long, and I knew I had to head back as soon as possible before she started worrying I had abandoned her… again.
