THE TRANSFER

907 Words
Liyana barely slept that night. Maren's letter lay beside her. She had read it so many times that she could almost recite every word. Still, the questions wouldn't stop. Why had Maren never told her about Edric? What had happened between them? Why had they been separated? And why had Maren waited until after her death to tell her? Liyana didn't have the answers. But one thing was clear. Maren wanted her to go. When morning came, Liyana folded the letter carefully and placed it inside her clothes. She looked at Nova. “We're going to Silver Crest.” Nova was quiet for a moment. Then she answered softly. ‘Then we’ll go.’ Liyana made her way to the Alpha House. She stopped outside the office and took a breath before knocking. “Come in.” She opened the door. Alpha Magnus looked up. His expression changed when he saw her. “Liyana.” She stepped inside. “Alpha Magnus, I need to ask you something.” “Of course.” She reached into her clothes and pulled out Maren's letter. “After Maren died, I found this.” Magnus took it. He read the letter slowly. Liyana stood quietly while he reached the end. When he finished, he folded it carefully. “Edric.” Liyana nodded. “He's my uncle.” “You knew nothing about him?” She shook her head. “Maren never told me.” Magnus looked at her for a moment. “And you want to go to Silver Crest.” “Yes.” Her voice was quiet. “She wanted me to.” Magnus nodded slowly. “I understand.” Liyana relaxed slightly. Then Magnus continued. “But there is something you need to know.” She looked at him. “You can't simply leave Moon Shadow and enter another pack.” Liyana nodded. “I know.” “You need an official transfer.” “I came to ask for one.” Magnus gave a small nod. “Then that's what we'll do.” Magnus moved to his desk. He pulled out the necessary documents and began filling them out. Liyana watched quietly. “You're sure about this?” She nodded. “Yes.” “Silver Crest will be different.” “I know.” “You won't know anyone there.” “I know.” Magnus looked at her. “And you're still going?” Liyana held Maren's letter tightly. “Yes.” Magnus nodded. “Then I'll contact their Alpha.” Liyana swallowed. “What if he doesn't accept me?” Magnus paused. “Then we'll find another option.” She looked down. “I'm afraid.” “I know.” He leaned back in his chair. “But being an omega doesn't make you less deserving of a place.” Liyana looked up. Magnus continued. “Your rank doesn't decide your worth.” Something about those words reminded her of Maren. She nodded. “Thank you.” Later that afternoon, Magnus received a response. Liyana was called back to the Alpha House. She stood nervously in front of his desk. Magnus held a letter in his hand. “Silver Crest has accepted your transfer.” For a moment, Liyana didn't react. Then her shoulders slowly relaxed. “They accepted me?” “Yes.” She released a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. “Thank you.” Magnus nodded. “The transfer will be officially processed before you leave.” Liyana smiled faintly. For the first time since Maren's death... She had somewhere to go. As Liyana turned toward the door, Magnus stopped her. “Liyana.” She looked back. “Moon Shadow will always be part of your story.” She remained quiet. “You don't have to forget this place simply because you're leaving it.” Liyana looked down. “I won't.” Magnus watched her for a moment. He knew she had already lost too much. “Take care of yourself, Liyana.” She gave him a small smile. “I will.” Then she left. Kael found out later. He was walking through the training grounds when one of the warriors approached him. “Did you hear?” Kael looked over. “Hear what?” “Liyana's transfer was accepted.” Kael froze. For a moment, he said nothing. Inside his mind, Onyx stirred. ‘She’s leaving.’ Kael closed his eyes. Onyx was silent for a moment. Then... ‘And you can’t stop her.’ Kael's jaw tightened. He didn't answer. Because Onyx was right. He had made his choice. Now Liyana was making hers. Liyana returned to the cottage. Her bag was still waiting where she had left it. She opened it and began placing a few belongings inside. Some clothes. A few personal things. The shawl Maren had given her. And finally... Maren's letter. She folded it carefully and placed it where it would be safe. Then she stopped. She looked around the cottage. The kitchen. The small table. The herbs by the window. Maren's room. Everything was still there. But Maren wasn't. Liyana took a slow breath. She walked to the door. Silver Crest was no longer just a name written on a piece of paper. It was where she was going. A new pack. A new home. A family member she had never met. She didn't know what waited for her there. But she was ready to find out.
