CHAPTER FOUR Recent footprints meant the killer could still be close. Sadie could feel anticipation thudding in her chest as she reached the exit to the warehouse. Outside the exit, a fire door that was heavy to open, a small stone staircase led down to an alley. A single, partial footprint was evident on the second step. As forensics got to work on it, Sadie carefully sidestepped it and went into the alley, scanning eagerly with her light for any more evidence, but she could see nothing. “Where does the alley lead?” she asked Linden, who had jogged up behind her.
