Mike always wanted a closer relationship with his son. They were never on bad terms, but even as a child, Black had been secretive and separate. Mike was thankful for the close friendship Black had with Alex and Dimitri. He had feared his son would never have any connection with another person and his two friends seemed to help keep Black from being a complete recluse.
