The next day, both Avery and Helena arrived late, although separately, to the office.
Fred only winked at Sarah when he saw Avery arrive late and head straight to her office. Sarah gave him a weak smile and kept going about her day, her prior work environment had taught her to mind her business.
She entered Avery's office with some papers that needed to be signed. Her boss seemed to have a hard time looking at her, she signed the paperwork and as Sarah was about to leave Avery spoke "Sarah, I am sorry to impose, but could you please get me a cup of coffee? I... I didn't have time to get one and I am about to enter a conference call in a few minutes". Sarah replied simply with "Of course" but internally she found it odd, it was the first time Avery had asked for anything that could qualify as an assistant role... She usually ended up doing everything herself. She was completely lost in thought when she realised she had arrived at the small office kitchenette, and she has not asked Avery how she took her coffee...
She thought about her boss for a while, she did not look the type to add anything so black as coal it was. She was about to leave when she decided to turn back and choose something sweet for the woman to eat along with the coffee. If she didn't have time to get coffee she probably did not eat either... She looked at her options, thinking again about her boss she smiled shaking her head - she sometimes reminded her of a kid or a teen- she chose something sweet and light, as it was mid-morning and she would also have to be on the phone.
She entered Avery's office as quietly as she could because she was already in her conference call, she placed the coffee and the sweet pastry on her desk and left, not noticing the look Avery gave her.
