The Real Reason

Violetta I fell back on my chair after hearing his words. To think I was starting to get worried. "So what exactly did you see?" I asked, and his eyes widened. "Shameless." He muttered under his breath before going to take a seat. I smiled as I watched him sit. "I invited you all here today to address the defeat we experienced a few days ago." I took a deep breath. "Although the team's strategy had been revealed to the rivals and I still don't know how, I've figured out the true reason for your defeat." I sent a message to the group chat, waiting for a few minutes before I spoke. "Despite the change in plans, a win should have still been feasible." Ricky looked up from his phone, his face scrunched up, he had already seen the problem I spoke of. "Your gears were obviously tampered with but you were too angry to even notice. The game shows you had problems with your movement but you somehow didn't know that." I explained. The team had their eyes on me now, a look of remorse on their faces. "Who would do this?" One of them managed to say, I looked up to him, a smile rising on my face. "That's a question I also asked..." My phone buzzed and I frowned. I pulled it out, ready to cut the call until I saw who it was. "Hello." "Miss Brooks. We need your presence in the company to discuss the termination." The person from the other end said. "What?" I asked but the other party couldn't answer my question, she was just a messenger. I looked up to the boys before me and although I knew they were quick to anger, I knew they would never report me. Knox noticed my conflicted expression and spoke. "What's wrong?" I heaved. "My contract has been terminated. I can't be your coach anymore." Knox raised a brow, and the others looked between each other in shock. I sighed yet again, and grabbed my bag. "I'll try to figure out the truth before I leave." I said leaving the room filled with confused faces. I was still contemplating on whether to leave, after all this was the team I formed and helped for years. To think they would be the first to terminate the contract? I scoffed, striding out of the restaurant. PRESTIGE Their words started as soon as I walked in, or even earlier. They spoke of my misconduct, and my hand got tighter with each voice I heard. I ignored the many people who called my name, trying to sound like they didn't just want some gossip. I banged hard on tej secretary's desk. "Where is that man?" I asked, my voice hoarse. Helen recoiled, she stared at me for a few seconds before regaining herself. She cleared her throat. "He is busy and asked me to pass you the papers. He told you to..." I didn't let her finish her words, a smirk played at her corner of my lips. "He dares to fire me but not see me?" My eyes landed on Helen, staring daggers into her soul, she shifted back, her eyes dropping to the floor. "Can you please..." I scoffed, walking away from the desk. Helen followed closely behind me. "Just take the papers and leave. You don't need to see him." She said, trying her best to convince me. My hands rested on his door knob and a smirk tugged at the corner of my lips as soon as I heard his voice. "You can go back now." I said to her, and without knocking, I pushed open the door. Rowan, the manager sat across from me, startled and trying to fix the glasses that he fell off from his face. I walked in, banging the door behind me as I studied the room. "How dare you walk in like that? I could have had an important client here?" He shouted. My hands rested on his table, my eyes locked onto his. "But you didn't." He parted his lips to speak but swallowed his words immediately. I took a seat, my eyes still on him. "Why is my contract off?" I asked, and he smiled. "You should be happy we are not filing a lawsuit. You had revealed the team's strategies to the rivals. Is that proper ethics?" He asked, banging on the topic. I smiled, his words seeming like a joke to me. "And who confirmed that I leaked it?" I leaned forward. He shifted in his seat. "Doesn't matter. They won while countering out tactics easily. It's obvious they've had knowledge of it." "So, it's just a speculation." I rose to my feet. "That's not a good enough reason, Mr. Daniel." The door opened as soon as I finished speaking and Lilith walked in. I banged on the table as she walked closer, she smiled. "This is my company now, and they let go whoever I want them to." Lilith said. I turned away, trying my best to keep my calm. "The company's staff sabotaged my team's play. Try your..." Lilith cut me off. "Don't bother. I ordered them to do it." My hands tightened around his desk as she continued to speak. "Alaric said he wanted to win so badly, he even mentioned stealing the strategies from you but he felt it wasn't enough." "So," she shrugged. "I made sure they would lose." a smile tugged at the corner of her lips. I really wanted to pull her apart but I only nodded. "Great." I said, I grabbed my bag and walked out of the place, seething with anger. I slammed the door of the car shut when my phone started ringing. Alaric. I scoffed, and picked the call. "I'm already home. Why aren't you back yet?" His voice sounded calm, soothing, the same voice he used more than three years ago. "Why do you care?" "You're my wife. I should be worried that you are still out by this time." "I don't need your worry." "I'm already showing you concern, you don't need to keep up the act anymore. I'll be waiting for you at home." Alaric declared before hanging up. I stared at the screen for a while before starting the car. This would be the last time he would see me.
