Asteria

They say all dreams have meaning. From time to time, sometimes those dreams come to play a part in the life of the doomed soul who saw them. "It truly was dreadful." "So that's it? You woke up screaming because you had a dream?" "No Hinata! Don't you get it? I saw death in my dreams. Death." Tadashi pulled his knees into his chest. He ran his fingers through his sweaty chestnut hair. The chaotic strands fell over his forehead in all directions. Making the simple task of using his eyes more difficult than it should be. Tadashi often reminded Hinata of a tree. Refreshing to look at. But a hassle to clean when the branches fell in the wrong places. "What if im having an Asteria?" "An Asteria? But those appear in dreams to foresee luck. Not tragedy." "There was luck... At least, there was a little bit." "How so?" Tadashi tiredly sighed and pat the free pillow next to him. Hinata happily complied. Crawling under the warm bedsheets, he hooks his arm around Tadashi's. His fluffy ginger hair, bouncing with his overly hyper movements. "At least in the end. The young boy still got to be with his Beast. He fulfilled his duty and never left the monster's side." "Because it was the Beast that left." "He had no choice. It was either himself or the human who would be chosen to live." "And he chose the human? Why?" "Maybe the human had better handwriting." Beaming a joyous smile brighter than the Sun. The little orange loudly snickered at Tadashi's usual sassy remarks. This tree's sap also had a bit of a spicy twist. It had a mouth. A big one. "How is it that you have this much energy so late Hinata?" "I may or may not have accidentally eaten one of the sugar cookies you have hidden in the cupboard." Tadashi sat there with his mouth hung agape while Hinata innocently shrugged his shoulders. "I put those on the highest shelf!" "And all I had to do was jump." The boy glared at the various holes and dents planted around the ceiling from the other times Hinata jumped too high and quite literally crashed through the roof of their small home. He laid back down on his back, closing his eyes, he listened to the calming sounds of crickets chirping in the late evening. The moonlight glowed sharply outside of the little rectangle window located just beside Hinata's puffy hair. The little orange turned away from Tadashi to gaze at the great celestial sphere. He began to imagine. If he jumped high enough. If he built a ladder and climbed to the highest stair. Would he be able to reach it? He would build a little house inside one of the craters. He'd sit on the rooftop and watch Earth as it rotated around the Sun. He'd count the fiery balls of heat and gas that glowed. He'd rename and claim every star his eyes could see. His first start would be named Tadashi. He'd name his first star after his first friend. "What do you see Hinata?" Tadashi whispered. He gripped onto his friend's arm. Hinata has always been like this. He was always looking for things average people never noticed. Maybe that's how he found Tadashi. "I see... Home." The little orange tore his eyes away from the unknown. He smiled at Tadashi. Puffing out his chest, he inhaled a deep breath of the Lily scented air. "Your Lilies are stronger than usual." "It's the Asteria. It's making me sweat." "It's unfair. You never smell bad." "It's not like I asked to be born with such a bizarre gift." "Because it was your mother who asked for you." "She was a Fairy. Not a miracle worker." "How can you be half-fairy but still lack a pair of wings?" "If I had wings, I'd chop them off so you could have them. So you could fly to the moon." "And as soon as I land, I'd put together the ladder for you to climb." "My legs would give out before I reach the top." "Or you'd die from lack of oxygen." "Or hypothermia." "Or both."
