JESSICA BERKELEY. That evening.. The water has gone cold, the icy snow breeze now sweeps into the room even though the windows and doors are tightly shut. I shiver, goosebumps spreading on my skin. It's so cold right now that I can't take a bath because there is no warmth in it. The cold is getting worse. Not the kind that brushes against your skin. The kind that settles into your bones… and stays there. I pull my sweater tighter around myself as I step into the hallway, my shadow faintly visible in the dim light. “Don’t tell me…” I mutter. The heater is dead. Of course it is. Because apparently, my life has decided to collapse all at once. I exhale sharply and grab a candle from the table, shielding the flame as it flickers wildly. The power isn’t completely gone, but it’s weak.
