JESSICA BERKELEY. The sound wakes me. A sharp c***k. I bolt upright in bed, my heart slamming against my ribs as the wind howls outside like it’s trying to tear the house apart. For a second, I just sit there, disoriented. Then I hear the sound of water dripping.
