Watchful Host Raid Claims Three Soldiers From The New Republican Record, November 13, 2105. New D.C.—The press office of the Watchful Host confirmed three soldiers from their elite corps were killed this morning in a raid at an undisclosed location within the Republic. The lost soldiers are Captain Rumford, Lieutenant Taylor, and Commander Stevenson. The mission is acknowledged to have been a strike against an unidentified terrorist cell. This was the fourth such incident in recent months, bringing the tally of lost commandos to eighteen. The press office dismissed any suggestion that the Watchful Host had been careless or impulsive, insisting the earthly life of every angel who has volunteered to serve for the good of humanity is precious and defended with the utmost care. All federal offices in and around New D.C. remain on Red Alert. In a simultaneous statement, the Brotherhood of Honest Laborers declared their property and members had been attacked “maliciously and unjustly” by the Watchful Host and that they defended themselves in an exchange of hostile fire this morning. It appears likely that these separate reports refer to the same incident. The spokesperson of the Brotherhood of Honest Laborers insists that the Watchful Host has unfairly attributed recent attacks upon citizens within the Republic to their organization and undertaken covert punitive measures as a result. The Brotherhood opposes the emancipation of those persons who had previously been known as shades. The organization has criticized the economic impact of President O’Donohue’s decision to grant full citizenship to shades in January 2101. The Brotherhood claims that the introduction of so many new workers into the paid labor pool has diminished the living standard of those who were never classed as shades, or those they call “honest laborers.” According to the Brotherhood, sixty percent of Honest Laborers have experienced a job loss, been overlooked for promotion and/or had their wages cut since 2101. They demand that if the shades cannot be returned to the netherzones, then they should labor only for the state and earn no paid wages. The Oracle has condemned the policies of the Brotherhood of Honest Laborers and requested again today that they embrace the changes in the new Republic. President O’Donohue expressed his condolences for the loss and saluted the sacrifice of the fallen. Funeral ceremonies for the deceased soldiers have already been conducted privately by the Watchful Host, as is their custom. The President announced a national period of mourning, to begin tomorrow morning at 1100. There will be a prayer from the Oracle on the hour, which will be vid-cast live, followed by five minutes of silence throughout the Republic to acknowledge the sacrifice of these warriors for righteousness. The mourning will culminate in a candlelight vigil at the shrine of the Watchful Host in New D.C. on Wednesday, November 18. The vigil will begin at 1800 and last through the following morning. On Thursday, November 19, there will be a memorial service held at the shrine at 1100. All are welcome. Citizens should arrive early to allow time for the requisite security scans before entering the shrine of the Watchful Host. Remember that all of New D.C. remains on Red Alert and plan accordingly.
