Chapter 2: THE AUDITION ROOM

1082 Words
A FEW YEARSS AGOO........ The world didn’t start with lights and fans. It started with nerves — trembling hands clutching a paper form, a borrowed pair of heels one size too tight, and a voice that didn’t yet believe it belonged on a stage. Two years before the world screamed her name, Alessia Reyes stood outside the glass doors of Global Arts Entertainment in Quezon City, surrounded by hundreds of other dreamers. Some wore glittered jackets, others held guitars, all of them hoping the same impossible thing: to be chosen. The security guard checked her ID. “Auditionee number 412. Go to the second floor.” “Thank you,” Alessia said, her voice small. She clutched her bag closer, whispering a prayer in Tagalog under her breath. Inside, the hall buzzed with anxious chatter. Posters of international stars lined the walls — faces she’d admired since she was thirteen. She exhaled, adjusting the microphone strap in her backpack, and tried not to look terrified. From across the hall, a cheerful voice called, “Hey! You look like you’re about to faint.” Alessia turned. A girl with honey-blonde hair and a French accent grinned at her. “Sophie Leroux,” she said, holding out her hand. “France. You?” “Alessia. Philippines.” “Pretty name,” Sophie said easily. “You here for vocal or dance?” “Vocal.” “Same!” She winked. “Let’s both survive today, oui?” Alessia laughed despite her nerves. “I’ll try.” Within minutes, another girl joined them — a confident American named Hailey Coleman who greeted them with, “Please tell me I’m not the only one sweating like I just ran a marathon.” Then Isla Vega, tall and fierce, sauntered over in ripped jeans, earbuds still in. “You’re all too tense. Chill. We’re gonna crush this.” And finally, Anya Keller — quiet, Swiss, with a calmness that instantly soothed the chaos around her. “We’ll do fine,” she said gently. “We just need to sing like no one’s watching.” Hailey laughed. “Except, you know, for the entire panel of judges.” The group burst out laughing — five strangers linked by nerves and a ridiculous dream. None of them knew they’d just met the people who would become family. Inside the audition room, the air smelled like floor polish and fear. The judges sat behind a long white table, expressionless. A camera blinked red in the corner. When it was Alessia’s turn, she stepped into the spotlight. “Name?” one judge asked. “Alessia Reyes. Twenty.” “Country?” “Philippines.” The judge looked up briefly. “Sing when ready.” She took a breath. The kind that clears the soul. Her voice started quiet — almost shy — then grew, filling the sterile room with warmth. She sang a stripped-down version of “Rise Again,” her own lyrics scribbled on the paper she clutched. By the second verse, she wasn’t even thinking about the judges anymore. She was singing to the version of herself that almost gave up. When she finished, silence. Then one of the judges whispered, “Beautiful.” The main judge nodded slowly. “You have something... raw. Stay after the session.” Alessia blinked. “Stay?” He smiled faintly. “You’ll see.” Hours later, when the results were pinned to the wall, her name was there. ALESSIA REYES – PASSED. She stared, not believing it. Then a scream erupted beside her — Hailey’s. “You got in too?! We all did!” Sophie grabbed Alessia’s hand, laughing and crying at the same time. “We’re in the same group! Aurea!” Isla smirked, wiping tears from her eyeliner. “Five girls, one dream. Let’s not screw it up.” Anya smiled quietly. “We won’t.” That was the beginning. Not fame, not the fans. Just five girls in a hallway, holding onto each other because no one else understood how much it meant. The following months were brutal. Training. Dancing until dawn. Singing until their throats bled. Recording demo after demo. They lived on instant noodles and adrenaline. Marcus Rowe, their new manager, barked orders like a drill sergeant. “Again! You want to be stars? Then act like it! Synchronize your hearts, not just your steps!” Clara Benedetti, their vocal coach, was no softer. “Emotion, Alessia! Feel the words! You’re not just hitting notes — you’re bleeding stories!” At night, they collapsed on their dorm beds, laughing between exhaustion and hunger. “Remind me why we’re doing this again?” Hailey mumbled. “Because we’re insane,” Sophie replied. “Because it’s worth it,” Alessia whispered. Anya nodded. “Because we promised each other.” Weeks turned into months. One morning, Tobias Fischer called them into his office. He stood at the window, city lights reflecting on his sharp glasses. “Congratulations, ladies. You’re debuting next month as Aurea. Prepare yourselves — fame doesn’t forgive.” Hailey nearly screamed. Sophie’s jaw dropped. Isla punched the air. But Alessia just stood there, silent, stunned. When they left the office, Sophie caught her arm. “You okay?” Alessia blinked. “Yeah… it’s just— it’s happening.” Isla grinned. “You earned it, leader.” That word — leader — hit differently. She hadn’t asked for it, but the others looked at her like she was their anchor. And maybe she was. That night, they had their first official photo shoot. Flashbulbs everywhere, stylists rushing, reporters watching. Alessia stared at herself in the mirror — glitter, eyeliner, red lipstick — and almost didn’t recognize the girl staring back. She wasn’t the nervous kid from the audition room anymore. She was Alessia Reyes, leader of Aurea. And the world was waiting. Hailey poked her head in. “You ready, boss?” Alessia smiled. “Always.” They stepped into the lights together — five voices, one heartbeat. Fame would come later. The chaos, the heartbreak, the secrets. But right now, they were just five girls with stars in their eyes and fire in their lungs. Sophie’s POV: She watched Alessia smile for the cameras, that calm, almost untouchable grace. There’s something about her, Sophie thought. Something that makes you want to follow her... or maybe fight her. Either way, the world will know her name. And as flashbulbs erupted again, destiny quietly took its first photograph.
