Chapter 5 | Edinburgh, MA

206 Words
Seven months later, Emma gives birth to a beautiful baby boy. He's premature, of course, but he is so big he looks full term! He has breathtakingly blue eyes and a perfectly round little face. Sebastian's level of emotion just might exceed that of his wedding day. Once again I find myself feeling bad for him. I find myself wondering if perhaps him and I have more in common than I would like to admit. Like if we were to sit together and discuss our trauma, we would find a lot of overlapping pieces. I have to shake the intrusive thoughts away. Jack has found an excuse to be present today, so Emma can cool it with the pictures. I'm holding Jack while he shakes over the sight of a richer man holding his son. Emma's sister, Lady Margery, walks by and remarks to her unnamed friend that Jack and I make a cute couple. She doesn't actually say our names, because of course she doesn't actually know them, but she does nod in our direction. Jack's response is to whimper into my shoulder. I pat him on the back and give him a reassuring squeeze, since apparently that's what everyone is expecting of us anyway.
