THE ESCAPE
"Please....please save me," Galina stuttered, her hands trembling, her lips quivering as her eyes turned red with unshed tears, clutching Death tightly.
Death's eyes glinted as he stood stunned for a few seconds before smirking his gaze turned serious. Nikolai smirked at the lady's audacity; he knew she was doomed.
The pounding of guards' footsteps was heard as their voices cut through the music. The guards got closer to them and bowed. " We are sorry for the inconvenience", they said cautiously, because they believed everyone in the casino was not an ordinary person.
" Take her off me" Death commanded, his voice a melodious tune that was both calming and commanding.
A wave of panic rushed through Galina as she felt her heart crumbling, her heart pounding against her ribs, and her nostrils tingling.
" no...no...please don't do this to me, I will be killed" she pleaded frantically as she left his embrace and cling to his arm like it was her lifeline, her hand trembling uncontrollable as tears streamed down her face " I....I will do anything as long as I can leave here, please" her tears turning to sob. Death was her only hope; if she were taken away, what would her fate be?.
Death slowly turned his gaze towards her. " You will do anything," he asked, staring directly into her eyes, but Galina instinctively averted her gaze, as if burned. His eyes were devoid of warmth, hollow and predatory. It was a look of being judged, weighed, and found.
"Will you do anything?"
"y....yes...I will do anything," she stuttered, cleaning her tears as she hiccupped.
"I am taking her," Death concluded, staring at the guards.
A wave of relief washed over Galina as her breath hitched, then finally released a long, shuddering sigh. But it all shattered when she heard the voice she dreaded the most.
"My apologies, sir, but she can't leave without paying for her release, " a lady in a black nose mask said, coming closer to them.
"Price," Death asked clearly, losing his patience.
" 2 billion," the black mask lady replied, not losing her composure.
On hearing the price, Galina started fidgeting, afraid that Death wouldn't have the money and if he had, would he spend it on a girl like her?" her mind kept racing as she thought about the amount.
"Death turned his gaze towards Nikolai, who furrowed his brow, as his eyes flickered in confusion, but quickly faded as he nodded in understanding.
"15 minutes"
"Yes, boss," Nikolai replied and adjusted his mask before trailing behind the lady who cast a glance at Galina before leaving, while Galina diverted her gaze, afraid the lady would say something else.
Death shook his hand away from Galina and started walking towards the exits while Galina stood startled by his sudden change of temperament, but quickly understood he didn't like physical contact.
Galina followed him, each step a venture into the unknown. The casino's chaos faded behind her, replaced by a different kind of dread. What awaited beyond those doors?Freedom? Or a different kind of cage. A knot of anxiety tightened in her stomach, her fate resting in the hands of a total stranger.
On getting to the underground garage, Nikolai stood by their car as he had arrived before them. He opened the door for Death when Death received a notification on his phone.
On seeing the notification, his jaw clenched, his fury simmering beneath his controlled exterior. He diverted his gaze towards Nikolai, "Take her with you," and left.
Nikolai gestured towards Galina, who had tons of questions running through her mind, but they got stuck in her throat when she felt the fierce glare from Nikolai.
They both entered the car and Nikolai zoomed off, the moonlight casting a glance into the car. Her mind drifted back to the frantic days of her escape.
" Be snappy" she could remember a harsh female voice hurrying them to get dressed in a strapless gown that barely covered her thighs. It's been five days since she was shipped from Italy to Russia.
The lady strode towards Galina, her eyes scanning her. "You need to hurry, remember it's your first time," she whispered, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ears.
A cold dread settled in her stomach, and her heart trembled. She could remember vividly when she was in Italy, her best friend Ava, pleaded with her to escort her to a bar in Italy but that was the last time she ever saw the street of Italy as she was sold and brought by the la Liga casino, which is the largest casino in Russia according to the information she gathered.
"Yes," she replied, and the lady nodded in satisfaction, leaving her to dress up.
She went to her drawer and sat down on the armchair facing the mirror, her hair neatly packed. She glanced around the room, and everyone was busy with their things. She pulled out a piece of paper from her bra strap and stretched it out. Her eyes scanned the paper, processing the pattern, looking like a map, in just a few minutes, she was able to process the information thanks to her high IQ. She crumpled the paper back and put it in her mouth, chewing it, all she needed was to execute her plan.
She touched her makeup, and at the same time, the lady from earlier entered again. "It's time to move," she shouted, and they all stood up in a line.
"Do not forget what I taught you," she said, her voice a hint of warning.
"Yes, miss Daniela," they chorused in unison, their faces a mixture of emotions
as they had no idea what lay beyond the closed doors.
"Come with me", she commanded as she stepped out of the room. They trailed behind her as two guards armed with weapons followed, leaving no room for escape.
Passing through the hallway, they got to the elevator and entered, Daniela pressing a specific number of buttons. The elevator soon beeped, and the door opened, appearing in another hallway, and the doors were tightly closed.
"Ahh," Galina shrieked in pain as she held her stomach, her face twisted in pain.
They all stopped abruptly, their gaze on her." What is the matter with you?" Miss Daniela asked in disdain, clearly displeased by her sudden change.
"My stomach aches," she stuttered almost inaudibly, feeling scared of what her reaction might be. "I need to use the restroom," she pleaded softly, her eyes shimmering in tears.
Miss Daniela sighed sharply, turning her gaze to one of the guards. "Take her to the restroom, the rest of you follow me," she ordered, eyeing Galina, her gaze stern.
The guard took her to the nearby restroom standing outside the door. Galina's gaze turned serious as she scanned the restroom. She climbed the zinc, removing the ceiling. She crept into it, and professionally, her heart thumped against her ribs as this was the first time doing this. She has studied the casino in the last five days, and thanks to Ava, who taught her the survival skill, her heart trembled. She thought of the possibility of Ava selling her to the Russians. She hastily crawled through the ceiling and landed in a storage room. She opened the door slightly, checking for any signs of danger, before tiptoing out of the room. She dashed out, going through the hallway, her eyes in a fixed direction.
"There she is," the guard who escorted her to the restroom shouted. Galina widened her eyes in horror ." s**t", she muttered under her breath. In just a few minutes, they were able to figure out that she escaped. She increased her pace, her heart hammering against her ribs. The guard's steps were getting louder, and fear crept through her. She mustn't be caught because she knew she would be more than just doomed.
Her eyes landed on the staircase exit, but the guards were nearly upon her, and one of the guards' hands was almost reaching her clothes. She did what she knew best, sliding with her right leg and crashing on the ground, rolling to the door. She hastily opened the door of the staircase and entered, locking it from inside. The two guards froze; they had underestimated her.
She ran downstairs, and on getting to the door, she hesitated, inhaling sharply as she panted. She opened the door slightly, seeing that the guards were not in sight, she slowly walked out.
Her eyes darted around the exquisite room, a sea of faces, both wrinkled and youthful, with suits and revealing dresses mingling. While searching for the exit, she caught sight of the guards, their eyes locked, her once calm heart started pounding, her steps became heavier. She hadn't run far when she bumped into a hard muscle, making her stagger. Desperate to escape, she clung her arms around him like a drowning person to a lifeline.
"We are here," Nikolai's voice sounded in her head, making her jolt to reality.
She stepped out of the car, and she took in the architectural grandeur of the sprawling building before her, the moonlight illuminating the building. She was captivated by the building's beauty, but the illusion shattered as she stared at the armed guards, their faces grim and vigilant.
"Welcome to the Bravta organization," Nikolai said, his voice devoid of warmth.
Galina's eyes widened in shock, a lump forming in her throat. The Bravta organization was named synonymous with brutality and illicit dealings, she knew they were far from legitimate. What was her purpose? Had she been saved only to be subjected to a more sinister form of captivity?. A coldness settled over her as she felt a burning gaze of being watched. She turned, and there stood a woman in casual denim, her hair blunt cut stopping right before he
r shoulders. Their eyes locked, and in the next instant, a gunshot shattered the stillness.
