THE NIGHTMARE
"Are you insane?" she shrieked, her eyes wide with terror and disbelief." Why would you shoot your mother?" She knew he was volatile, but this was beyond madness.
" Death prowled towards her, each deliberate step suffocating Ksena as she was forced to swallow hard, her heart thumping loudly. He stopped before her, bending slightly, his fingers close around her chin.
"I listen to your orders only when it comes to mission, my private life is beyond your limits," his voice slow and deliberate, sending icy tendrils down her spine. He released her chin and straightened up. " I am not your tool to play with, interfere in my personal life, and I promise to end you." he turned to leave but paused in the doorway. "Incompetent," he spat at Sergei before leaving.
Sergie clenched his fist as he felt his anger rising, but he concealed it. He found Ksena whose face was pale, blood welling from her arm. He pulled out his phone, " Get to my mother's suit now," he commanded and ended the call immediately.
He moved closer to her in a gentle step, but Ksena shot out her leg, causing a vicious kick that sent him flying and crashing on a nearby desk.
"Your incompetence is glaring, don't you feel ashamed?" Ksena hissed, her voice laced with venom. " Without Death, you'd be a corpse. Sometimes I wonder what else you knew how to do best aside from frolicking around women".
"You shouldn't have sent him," Sergie roared, his voice thick with fury. " I could have handled it myself, " the mission failure and Death encounter made his blood boil in frustration and fury, coupled with his mother's stinging words.
Ksena's hand a blur as it connected with sergie cheek. " smack" her eyes blood shot in rage " can you listen to yourself? You could handled them. Still, they were going to kill you and send your corpse to the organization, you are not just useless, you are utterly brainless" she retreated to the sofa wincing as the movement sent a jolt of pain through her arm. " this is the last time I am sending you to mission" she concluded turning her gaze to her injured arm.
Sergie's gaze remained fixed on his mother, "Mother, please," he begged, his voice laced with desperation." Just one more chance. I swear I will succeed this time around." he held his gaze, changing to the familiar words he used countless times.
"That is enough," Ksena stated, devoid of warmth.
"But mother, there is no way I can prove myself if you stop me from going on the mission, " his voice cracked.
Ksena ignored him, her attention now focused on the doctor and his assistant, who entered in their white coat. Sergie seething with frustration, stormed out.
He stormed into his room, his fury blazing as he began to dismantle furniture, throwing objects, all victims of his uncontrolled rage. " Lev....lev...." his voice hissed, a venomous whisper.
"Why, what is so good about him?" His eyes were bloodshot and filled with raw resentment.
Just then, his right-hand man entered, his expression calm as this was not his first time creating chaos. "Boss, this solves nothing, you have to focus on getting your mother's trust, without it, you are powerless "
The sound of objects shattering stopped as Sergie turned to him, his expression of defeat. "Michael," he whispered, his voice heavy with despair," why am I always seen as a failure?"
Michael, seeing Sergei's state, felt a wave of sympathy. No boss", he began, placing his hands firmly on Sergei's shoulders " you are not a failure, your emotions blur your potential, you allow them to take control of you"
Sergie inhaled sharply, his chest heaving," Then what should I do?"
Michael, not only his right-hand man but also his confidant, moved closer to him and whispered into Sergio's ear. Sergie's eyes shone excitedly, his dejected posture vanished, and a mischievous grin replaced it.
The room was cleaned up by the maid, and his wound was tended. "Boss, I will take my leave" Michael stood up in preparation to depart.
"Two girls, arrange them," he commanded, a huge contrast to the earlier chaos.
"Boss, won't the capo find out?" Michael asked, his brow furrowed in concern.
You don't need to worry about that, you only need to do as I command." He turned and disappeared into his bedroom, ending the conversation.
Death, his face twisted in a silent struggle, clutching his duvet tightly as he relives a nightmare etched into his memory, sweat tickling down his forehead as his vein glares.
A young lev no more than seven ran excitedly towards his father's suite, a secret burning in his heart. Inside, he found his father in a pool of blood, his body disfigured by a bullet; a masked figure vanished into the shadows.
"Papa...papa..." Lev's cries echoed, but his father was gone. He died in his son's embrace.
Death's eyes snapped open, his face drained of color as he panted. The recurring nightmare is a reminder of his past which claimed his sleep.
Sleep was a rare and unwelcome visitor to death, and when it came, it tormented him with his father's death. He rose and moved towards the bathroom, taking solace in the chill water dripping from his body. Afterwards, he approached a drawer, his movement precise. He opened it and retrieved a photograph. He stared at the image which mirrored his.
"Papa.." he murmured, stroking the picture, his touch a silent expression of love. He walked to the balcony, sinking into a chair, his eyes never leaving the photograph, lost in memories.
"Splash," the icy water was poured on Galina as she jolted awake. Her body was wet with the water.
"Time to get your ass up, this isn't your house," a harsh female voice echoed in the room. Galina glanced up to get a view of the person. The lady is 5'5 ft tall, putting on a short mini gown as she slowly chews gum with a smirk on her face.
"You shouldn't have poured me water," Galina murmured under her breath.
She couldn't believe she was paired with five girls who had been in the organization long before her. The room was cramped with a small bed each for the five of them.
She groaned while standing up. There is no difference between the bed and the floor. The hostility coming from the lady made her shiver. What kind of torment is she going to face? Her mind raced with different thoughts.
"You need to get ready in just 10 minutes," the lady commanded before leaving, and her gaze met with one of her roommates.
"Um..., hi," she greeted while the lady turned her gaze away as she continued dressing up.
Galina shrugged her shoulders as she left for the bathroom. She stood under the running water as she thought about her mother, what would her mother do when she learnt about her disappearance? She is the only child of her mother. She needs to find a way to escape. She can't be caged in the organization. With that thought, she let out a long shuddering sigh.
She was able to get through in just 10 minutes, and when she came out, the sun penetrated into her eyes, making her squint her eyes. She glanced around and took in the grand building and the armed guide. To escape would not be easy but she needs to find a way.
She got closer to the lady, with her two strange faces, staring at her " you got lucky, you are not a minute late" the lady said turning her gaze towards the other two girls. " Follow me, to know the kind of work you were assigned to" she concluded as she started walking away, Galina and the other two girls trail behind her.
They got to a large building with a big gate mounted in front of it, and three armed guards stood vigilantly. The lady moved closer to them and whispered to one of the guards' ears who looked like their leader. He turned to his subordinate and nodded. The gate was opened and they all went in.
Inside, the smell of tobacco and cigarettes with the cloying sweetness of perfume lingered in the air as Galina held her nose with a frown on her face. They walked through the noise and the buzzing music to a room. The lady went to an armchair and sat down on it, taking a cigarette from the drawer closer to her, lighting it as she puffed out smoke.
" Your job in this organization is to serve," she uttered as she puffed out a smoke.
Galina felt her heart thumping,
was she saved from the casino to be brought to a casino? A lump formed in her thoat.
