CHAPTER FOUR: ALDER ROW PARK

1646 Words
MILA “Mila dear! I need you to go pack up some of the food items on the kitchen counter to the car, we are running late.” Mom called out from the living room. “Be reminded to add the disposable cups and plates too!” She added, her voice echoing through the walls. "Yes mom,” I responded. I slipped into a knee-length sundress, matching the color of the sky. The soft white polka dots made the dress one of my favorites. The fabric clung closely to my waist before flowing easily to a skirt. After much deliberation, I settled with my flat white sandals, with the straps wrapping my legs, a bit above my ankles, topping it with a white and pink flower design straw hat. I matched it all with a pink baby purse. “I should at least look extremely good if they won't let me stay back to enjoy my peace” I mumbled to myself. I quickly took a last glance at my frame in the mirror, feeling pleased by what I look like, I stepped out of my room and headed straight to the kitchen. On the counter, I grabbed the food bags and a few other smaller bags containing the disposable items and took them to the car trunk. “You should all ensure you do not leave anything behind” Dad called out from the hallway. “Dad, you should probably tell that to Mila, since this is her first picnic on earth” Stella said, with a loud annoying giggle. “Fool” I mumbled under my breath. “Everyone, get in let's go” Mom squealed happily. After about an hour and a few minutes of driving, we arrived at Alder Row Park. It was a quiet well-kept nature-filled environment. A long row of mature alder trees lines a narrow walking path, their branches slightly overhanging, casting a shadow on the ground and creating a shade to relax. Some families were present in the park, as well. We brought out the items from the car trunk and laid them on the blanket we stretched across the green grass. There were several food items as well as some family game supplies. We were playing a family game when two ladies with one of them holding a volleyball walked up to us. “Hello! It is nice to meet you. I’m Maya, and this is Regan. We are playing a volleyball game out on the lawn, and we thought of inviting you, if you do not mind.” One of the ladies altered, staring at me. “I don’t think they would mind that at all. Girls, you both should go have fun with them,” Mum added with a grin. “That sounds like fun, I’m totally down for it.” Stella squeals. “I think I will just stay back here, thank you for the invitation though” I added with a little smile on my face. “Oh common, do you always have to be a vibe crusher? Would it kill you to have fun again?” Stella rolled her eyes as she blurted. “Mila, it really would do you no harm to have fun, I hope you know this?” Mom added with her brows raised. “Oh, it is totally fine if she doesn’t want to join in but we would really love you to join us because we thought you were really beautiful and had a cute hair." The other blonde hair lady added as she faced me with a smile plastered on her face. I could feel Stella’s jaw tightened as she put a fake smile on at the words of the lady. It made me feel good. I love it when she gets mad or jealous because of me. This made me change my mind about joining the volleyball game. “Thank you very much for the compliment. Let’s go for the game, I’m in.” I altered with a smile blooming across my face. **** We were out on the lawn, enjoying the game. It was a group of five against five. I was added to the same team as Maya and Regan while Stella was added to the opposing team. We were leading with five points while they had only one point. I could see anger written all over Stella’s face. She could not stand the fact that I was in the winning team. The voice of a man interrupted the game as we all paused to see who it was. “Let me show you all how this done!” He roared. Some ladies around gushed and ran towards him as he walked past them like they were invisible. “Oh, my Goddess, it is Ryan Castro! He is so handsome. I can’t believe a day like this will come that I will ever see him.” One of the ladies screamed. Why on earth is he here in all places to be? His presence made me feel a lump form in my throat even though I know that he doesn’t recognize me. I could see Stella beaming like a fool as she tucked her hair strands behind her ear, staring at him. “You should just marry him instead,” I muttered to myself. “Yo, Jerry go play with the other team while I play here.” He pointed to one of his guards as he muttered. The guard soon joined us as Ryan joined the opposing team. “Also, you all listen to my rules, no one will back out of this game regardless of whatever reason there may be, no soft serves, no laughing during the game, play through it, if you cannot keep up, step aside.” He blurted. I was already irritated by the thoughts of him joining the game but coming out here to act like he owns the place or the people is what I will not concur with. I was about to leave when I felt a grip around my wrist. “Please stay, if not we will be short of a player.” Maya pleaded with an expression that looked like she was about to cry. I thought a little longer before giving her a response. I just hope this guy doesn’t make me burst a nerve out of anger. “Okay, just a little bit longer” I responded in the calmest way I could. “Thank you” She squealed like a child as she held my hands. Just five minutes into the game after Ryan joined, it felt like we were all fighting for our lives. Maya looked like she was about to take her last breath from the rough serves we were getting from Ryan. Even his teammates struggled to touch the ball because he didn’t even give them the chance to. “Get out of my way you Id*ot, y’all play like weaklings” Ryan barked as he roughly pushed a teammate out of his way, making him land so hard as he brushed his elbow against the bare floor. “Okay, that’s it. I think you are the weakling here. First, you came here and joined the game without an invitation from anybody. You poured out your useless rules like they matter and now you think you can just talk trash or treat people however you wish?” I spat with anger consuming me. I soon regret ever saying a word because at this point, I was getting side looks from people like I was crazy. “How could she speak to Ryan Castro in that manner? Who the hell is she?” A lady mumbled loud enough for me to hear. “I think she’s just a crazy clout chaser” another lady added. I knew it was time to leave, and these people aren’t even worth standing up for. Only if I could always charge towards my family members this way, maybe they wouldn’t take me for granted. I thought to myself as I slowly walked away from the scene in embarrassment but mainly out of anger. “You are just a little b*tch!” I heard Ryan call out behind me. I kept going without looking back. I can’t believe this is the maniac I will be spending the rest of my life with. A tear rolled down my cheek, and I quickly cleaned it off, not wanting to be seen crying by these people. We finally packed all our stuff into the car trunk as we drove off. It was past five in the evening. We arrived at the house a few minutes past 6pm. I was heading to my room when I heard dad call out, “I hope you are going up to prepare for your dinner date? Be ready by 8pm, Ryan Castro will be out here to pick you up and I'm sure you wouldn’t want to keep him waiting” He announced as he walked out of the living room. I didn’t give him a response and just headed straight to my room. I wasn’t ready to add any other drama to this day even though I know what was waiting for me in the nearest hours to come. **** I wasn’t going to dress to kill to a dinner date with a man I wish I could kill, so I settled for the simplest date worthy outfit idea I could come up with. I wore a soft beige ribbed mini dress with three-quarter sleeves in length. I paired it with a low block heel mule in nude color, and I held a light denim jacket in case the evening gets cooler. I heard a car hoot, but I paid no attention to it not until someone screamed out my name. “Milaa! He is here.” Oh s**t!
