Five Years Ago - Jai’s POV
The squad and I are cheering the boys on from the sidelines as they run the ball down the field. “O-F-F-E-N-S-E!'' We chant over and over. We jump back and forth for the crowd making pyramids and watching the boys when we’re able. My heart stops as I see Troy get tackled, but he’s quickly back up as Grayson leans down offering him his hand. My boys, the MVPs of every game. I grin and wave my pom pom at the two of them earning a wave from Troy and a flirty wink from Grayson. My heart does an involuntary somersault and I try not to overthink it. That boy has slept with every one of the cheerleaders except for me, surely that means something.
I look down the field and see Marcus smiling at me from the bench and wave. Oh the joys of teenage romance. It’s senior year and our last game, we both know this relationship begins and ends within the walls of this school, but it’s been fun while it lasted. As the whistle blows our team is down by a field goal and I watch as they set up to kick. All of a sudden with 30 seconds left on the clock Grayson grabs the ball and runs it to the end zone barely dodging the other team's defense. Everyone goes wild as we win our last game ever. I run out onto the field and jump on his back as the crowd continues to cheer and run onto the field. He catches me and laughs, “Easy there, spider monkey.” I giggle and slap his back, “You crazy quarterback!” I get down and he turns sending me a panty melting grin, “I’m only crazy if it doesn’t work.” I look at him with playful exasperation but I'm distracted when Troy comes up behind Grayson and warm arms circle my waist.
I look over my shoulder and smile at Marcus only slightly upset that I’ve been interrupted with Grayson. He leans in and kisses my jaw to my ear, “Why don’t we celebrate our win tonight? You can give me a prize for my last game.” His whispered seduction makes me shiver, not out of want, but discomfort. I know our relationship is mostly s****l, but I’m not a prize. I push away those thoughts and nod turning in his arms. “Sounds good,” I whisper, “my mom won’t be home tonight since we’re having a party.” He grins and kisses me.
Grayson’s POV
My last game and with some crazy ass risk I managed to win it. I was elated out on the field and that only increased as I felt an all too familiar body attach to my back. My little spider monkey, she’s been jumping on me like this since we were young. As I enjoyed my celebration and the attention of my favorite girl I’m brought back to reality when that player comes up and puts his hands all over her. He has cheated on her so many times, I know I’m no saint, but still. I’d be loyal to her. I shake my head as he assaults her with his mouth, what am I thinking? I’d have to have her to be loyal. I notice that Troy is trying to get my attention, “Dude, cheerleaders, booze, and music all night at my house!” I nod and steal a glance over at Jai who looks uncomfortable in Marcus’s embrace while the look in his eyes make his intentions crystal clear. At least this party will keep him trapped so he has to keep his filthy hands to himself.
I ride back with Troy leaving my keys with my dad because I know I won’t be in driving condition tonight. I try to control myself as I see Marcus throw a giggling Jai over his shoulder and totes her to his car. Troy catches me staring and slaps my shoulder before getting in the driver’s seat, “Dude stop staring at my sister.” I sigh as I lean my head back against the seat rest, “I know, off limits.” When we get back to the house Marcus and Jai are already downstairs with a few other people and the music is blaring. He’s grinding all over her while they dance and anyone can see his horniness. I walk closer and make eye contact with Jai trying to ask her if she’s alright. She just gives me a small smile, nods, and goes back to dancing. Throughout the night I have cheerleader after cheerleader throw themselves at me and although I make out with Jessica, the hottest of the bunch, a little, not even I want my sloppy seconds. While Jessica and I are dancing and she’s rubbing all over me I glance around the room and see Troy making out with one of the many girls here, but I can’t find Marcus or Jai. My blood runs cold and I push away from Jessica and head for the stairs. I check out back and at the bathroom hoping to god that they aren’t in her room, but the reality hits me the closer I get. “Mmm Jai you are so hot in that little uniform,” I hear his slurring words. “Marcus, the party isn’t over, I don’t want to do anything with people here,” I hear Jai’s weak plea and something inside me cracks, have they done something? God, the thought makes me sick and suddenly an unfamiliar feeling stirs, jealousy. “Come on, baby. You promised. Your mom isn’t here, everyone’s downstairs. Just a quick one then we can go back.” I hear Jai sigh and I know she’s about to give in so I do what any good friend that’s totally not jealous would do in this situation. I prepare to lie.
