I didn’t have any more reasons to stay. I said goodbye to Jonathan and got out of the property as secretly as possible. At least I hoped no one noticed, even though I took Mark’s fancy car, I assumed if I was the one being chased then it would be more than okay if did it in style.
My next stop was the larger city where Mark’s birth was registered. Or the baby whose place Mark took when the woman gave him to Jonathan. The name on the certificate bugged me. No, it actually made the hairs on my neck stand with horror – it was Dr. Th. Wildhouse.
I reached the hospital a little after the lunch break and parked in the open parking lot behind the large square building. I had finally changed into my own clothes, and it gave me more confidence than the baggy ones I had found in the cottage.
