Crushed, utterly crushed. It felt as though Alex had walked all over me, shattering our friendship into irreparable pieces.
I made my way home, a heaviness settling in my chest. Before leaving, I dialed an ambulance and the police from an anonymous number for the house of the deceased man. I couldn't afford to involve Alex; I feared what he was capable of.
For the second time, I found myself witnessing a murder.
