“Whats your name young lady?” she asked me.
“Oh her name is..”
“She has a mouth” she rudely cut Nelly off.
Nelly scoffed and relaxed back, gesturing me to speak up.
“My name is Amira” I said.
“Age?”
“I’m 28 years old”
“Past relationships and life?” she adjusted her glasses. Leaning back on her chair.
“I have only been in one relationship, we dated for 7 years but broke up cause our blood groups didn't match. And I’m a major in Accounting, I’ve worked for different companies in different roles over time.” I said confidently.
If there was anything I enjoyed talking about aside from fashion, it was about my life. I was like a storyteller.
“Hmm I see” the lady said.
She reached out to some pile of documents on her table and brought out a black file, beneath other documents.
“You suit the description of a very very” she paused and adjusted her glasses.
“Very important client of mine. If he likes you, then you've got it”
Nelly grabbed my hand and squeezed it softly. I smiled, happy to have found hope.
“Did you come along with your photo?.” the lady asked me.
“Yes I did” I reached into my bag and brought out my photo.
Nelly and I had stopped by as my house before coming. She had asked me to carry my photo along, stating that I'll be needing it.
“Fill this form correctly” She handed me a form and a pen.
I correctly filled the form, making sure I made no mistakes. When I was done, I handed the form to her and my photo.
“You may leave. If the client likes you, I'll set up a meeting with you both”
“Okay. Thank you” I said and turned to Nelly to leave.
“See you around Alice” Nelly waved at her and the lady scoffed.
Immediately we got out of the office, I hugged Nelly, holding her so tight to my body.
“Thank you so much Nelly. What will I have done without you” I muttered into her neck
“It's fine baby. What are friends for?” she said as she gently patted my back.
“Okay that's enough hugging, I can't breathe!” Nelly said in a rush and I quickly released her.
“Oh my God, you almost killed me” she exhaled.
“Oops” I said and we both laughed out together, walking out of the building.
About 30 minutes later, we were back to Nelly’s place.
We sat over some leftover slices of pizza and Coca-Cola.
“How long do you think the client will take before giving me a feedback?” I asked with a mouth full of pizza.
“So…” she paused and drank some Coke, swallowing the food she had in her mouth before continuing.
“During mine, the Client took three days before giving a feedback. It might take even longer in your case. You know these rich people are always busy” she winked at me.
“Ohh” my mood instantly fell.
“But do you…” My phone dinged, cutting me off.
I picked it up. It was an email from an unknown address. I tapped on the message to view it's content and immediately I saw the content of the email, my eyes widened on its own.
“Oh, oh yes!” I shouted happily, jumping up to my feet.
“What’s the news?” Nelly asked me.
“I have been accepted! I got the contract!” I shouted on top of my voice.
“No way! Oh my goodness!” Nelly also jumped excitedly, coming to give me a hug.
“You are so lucky girl! Let me see that” She snatched the phone from my hand.
“Wait” she said as she looked through the mail, her face turning serious, I paused my excitement.
“Is something wrong?” I stepped closer to see if there was anything I missed in the mail.
“Look over here Amira”
I directed my eyes to where she had pointed at and my eyes went wide, my hands covering my mouth.
“He..he’s going to call me personally!? Why!?”
Nervousness washed over me again. I wasn't prepared to face the client or even speak to him. Suddenly, my phone rang. An unknown caller. My heart skipped a beat.
“Do you think..." Nelly looked at me with wide, worried eyes.
The ringing persisted in my hand. I was too nervous to swipe to answer, unsure of what to do.
"Answer the call!” Nelly shouted, snapping me back to reality.
I quickly brought the phone to my ear, my hands trembling slightly. Silence stretched for a moment, no words, no sound from the caller.
"Hello," I managed to say.
A cold, sharp voice cut through the line. "I had started to think my supposed bride was mute," it said. My hands trembled even more, the phone nearly slipping from my grasp.
