Though I was mostly zoned out, my mind caught on to a few things the elder mentioned about the Trials—I’d have one month to prepare.
Preparations included my sessions with Vera, and bond training with the boys (which was basically like couples therapy with exercises to help us trust each other more, build loyalty, and strengthen the bond).
The Trials would begin immediately after—a series of twelve tests. The tests were divided into four stages.
Each stage had its own mission, but within each mission, the Trials would always bring three miniature tests—making up the twelve in total.
According to the elder, these three little tests were often hard to detect. Most candidates never even realized they were being tested until they failed.
They were designed to be tricky.
