AMARIS’S POV Gladys clicked her tongue, turning back toward the counter. "You heard me." Guilt coiled in my stomach. I’d barely spoken to him for a few days now—almost like he had predicted that the Romanovs might pull me so deep into their world that I’d lose interest in our friendship. But that wasn’t true—I missed him so much, almost unbearably. So much had just been going on—all at once. Too many distractions, too many thoughts, too many threats.
