Chapter six - the party

Lisa's p.o.v
I had no idea what Elvy was up to that had even prompted her to find where I lived.
But I knew her very well and soon she would start talking.
"So Mrs. Genius start talking"
I was standing before her my arms folded before me. To answer me she rolled her eyes at me.
"Lisa be a good host and offer me at least a cup of coffee that way I won't chock on my words"
I looked at her again before getting her the cup of coffee. When she had sipped and given me that mischievous smile I got agitated.
"Elvy speak it out"
"OK OK don't claw my eyes out I'll talk. Lisa I'm here to pick you up for the party"
"Are you deaf or something girl? I told you I'm not going"
"I know Lisa but I still insist, trust me you'll see its not a bad idea after all"
We argued for what seemed like thirty minutes until I finally gave in.
"Only with one condition.."
" speak it out Lisa"
"If I find the place boring we leave immediately and I'm serious Elvy"
"OK miss its a deal. So where is your closet so we can get you dressed the party starts at 7:00pm and its already 6:00 pm."
"Elvy there's a problem"
"What is it Lisa?"
"I have no decent dress to wear to a party unless you let me put on my shorts and T-shirt"
" hell no Lisa! Are you crazy? You can't go to such a party with shorts"
"Then what do we do? Maybe I should just stay here, you go enjoy yourself"
"No Lisa I had thought of that and as a plan B I brought with me some of the things you would need. Here check out this"
With her Elvy had brought a royal blue dress , black heels that had blue straps and a striped blue black purse.
"Elvy where did you get all this things?"
"Relax Lisa, they are just second hand but from far one can mistake them to be as new as the ones from the malls.
That's what we call playing cards with life"
"Truly you are genius"
"I know girl"
Shaking my head at her cheeky smile I went in for a thorough shower before drying my hair.
Coming out I couldn't believe my eyes, Elvy was standing there in a cream dress that had laces at the shoulders leaving her skin visible under the lace, her hair fell on her shoulders and she paired the dress with black heels and also a black purse.
She had put on a red lipstick that brought out a different Elvy. To sum it all up she was beautiful.
"Don't just stand there as if you've seen a ghost, tell me how do I look?"
"A..aa.h y.oo.u you...."
"What lisa? Don't tell me you lost your voice."
"You look amazing Elvy I just can't believe it"
"Do you think Del will like me?"
"Del??...Elvy wake up from your silly dream"
"We'll see about that, now sit down so I can apply your make up I don't want us to be late"
"Oh no I'll just use my lip bum and that will do"
"Silly now sit, just you wait and see the magic of my hands"
Twenty minutes later, the image before me was that of a different person, Elvy was right she was more than a magic maker she had applied to me a pink lipstick and made my eyes look slightly smoky. My hair which was pitch black was piled at the top in a stylish way.
The blue dress was split at the right and at the left it spread on the floor in a bridal style, my arms were bare and not being used to such I felt a bit uncomfortable but I mentally convinced myself that I was nervous.
"What do you think of the person before you"
I was standing in front of the mirror checking out myself.
"I feel like its a new me, thank you Elvy"
"You are welcome girl, its 6:30 let's get going"
She called out for a taxi which arrived after five minutes. I felt unstable on my heels but I kept my mouth shut I wasn't going to give Elvy a hard time after all she had gone through to convince me to come along with her.
It had been a twenty minutes drive when the taxi pulled in front of a huge mansion, Elvy paid the driver before coming to stand beside me.
"Here we are girl, let's go rock that floor"
"Elvy where did you get such courage? What if we turn out to make a fool of ourselves?"
"From you"
"Me.!?"
"Yes"
With that we both fell silent until two girls who were also looking gorgeous came to us and one of them who was a blonde spoke to us.
"Hey there, are you two lost?
I remained silent while Elvy answered them back.
"No. Do we look like we are lost?"
"Well..well isn't this the waitress at the Elliot's? What a transition, did you rob a dead body that dress?
The girl with the red hair spoke this time and I just couldn't stand there and let them insult Elvy.
"Excuse me ladies, we are here just like you two so if you don't mind we are not lost"
"Oh Sindy look its the other waitress too, Melissa must have thought it nice for the serving girls to dress appropriately I'm sure you'll serve us well."
" let's go Jennin we have to meet many people and say hello to people with class"
I restrained myself from grabbing her and putting her in her place as they walked away, my hands were in a hard fist and I could feel the pain my nails caused in my palm.
"Elvy let's just go back, I don't think this is a good idea"
"No Lisa we now have all the reason to go in there and show those crazy girls that we are not as helpless as they perceive us to be"
With Elvy in this state, I knew better than not to argue with her she wasn't going to listen.
Several people came and entered the mansion as we just stood there, there were those who managed to throw a hello at us while others even barely noticed us.
"Let's go inside Lisa"
I was hesitant but Elvy grabbed my hand and headed to the main entrance. It seemed like everyone was inside since no one was going in.
"Elvy you go first I'll follow you shortly"
"Alright but don't you dare leave or else..."
I gave her a reassuring smile before she slid between the doors. Taking three minutes to catch my breath I decided it was time to see what was behind the doors.
Pushing the door wide I stepped inside and posed for a second before my eyes adjusted to the environment inside, turning both sides while taking my time I looked for the sight of Elvy before facing in front only to spot her talking to Del.
I took two steps while my dress trailed behind me and that's when I realized the faces of the people looking my way, I took a deep breath and stopped for a minute before touching my cheek to make sure nothing was wrong and then I proceeded towards Elvy.
As I neared the group of people who seemed to have abandoned their conversation, they moved each side and I walked my head held high nearing Elvy who at that moment had turned to see me and came to take my hand.
"Who is she?"
"Where does she come from?"
"She sure is beautiful"
I caught air of the talk the girls around were howling, although I didn't understand what was so special about my entrance, if only they knew that everything I had was borrowed.
Everyone went back to what they were doing as Elvy handed me a drink she had picked from a guy among the serving crew.
I noticed Del wasn't with us anymore and as I took a sip I felt a little better.
The night had just started
