.......
I woke up feeling as heavy as a log, normally one sleeps to get a good rest and wake up feeling fresh and energized, but in my case it was different.
Each morning reminded me of new challenges, more trouble, and disaster
Yes disaster, you are more than trouble yourself.
The voice in my head mocked me.
Whatever, you don't have to remind me.
Silly you are talking to yourself
Go to hell
Well I'm inside you, I'm part of you.
The knock on my door brought me out of my mental daze, I got up groaning, pain shot at my back, I massaged the back of my neck walking to the door
I surely need to do something about that bed or else I'll find myself on a wheelchair crippled
I was barefooted putting on my old blue shorts, a gray baggy T-shirt, my hair was a total mess but ask me and I'd tell you I was in good shape I less cared on my appearance surviving was my priority.
I couldn't remember the last time I had bought new clothes.
I hardly went to parties or even outings I wouldn't have anything decent to wear although I had no one to call my friend there was my colleague at work we were somehow close. Otherwise I was always a lone ranger.
I opened the door and there a man stood holding two shopping bags.
"Hello, are you Miss Lisa Gueras?"
"Yes that should be me, how may I help u?"
"This are for you ma'am please sign here"
I looked at the guy as if he'd grown another head. Was he insane? I could hardly afford a onetime meal let alone clothes? And as if that was not enough, they were two big shopping bags with clothes,
I laughed at my thoughts and the man just stood there as though he'd been paid not to smile.
Whatever..I was so used to my problems that a smile easily found itself on my lips all the time.
"Hey Mr I think there's a mistake I didn't order this"
"No ma'am Mr. Eddy asked this to be delivered to you"
Mr. Eddy? And who the hell was that?
Perhaps his girlfriend had the same name as mine
Silly. Your name alone is disaster what decent girl would want it.
"I'm sorry but your Mr. Eddy gave you a wrong address, please take this back"
The guy opened his mouth to speak but I was already closing the door he just stood there as I shut it on his face.
A way to be rude, but he deserved it disturbing my morning.
Silly girl you should thank him for getting you out of that bed or your face would be facing backwards from pain.
I went back to get ready for work. I was a waitress on one of the small restaurants in town, it was the only job one could afford to employ me.
I still hadn't graduated after putting my education on hold.
One of my uncles had been paying for my studies but one day he just woke up and told me I was old enough to get married and that he would not pay for me anymore.
I knew he was a good man but I was sure his wife had something to do with his decision, she was the image of the devil, never friendly and always complained how I ate too much and that I should just leave their house to go and find a life.
I remember one day her bringing an old hug of a man for me to get married to. That's when my uncle came to my rescue but that night an argument had erupted between them. I had cried the whole night till there were no more tears to cry.
I had just joined college but after my first year my studies came to an abrupt end.
I still wanted to go back to school but those were just hopes that I had pushed at the corner of my mind. For now I had to think of my survival first, paying rent and still having enough for my meals.
My parents memory was just one thing I wasn't going to think or else I'd end up crying and spoiling my big beautiful eyes. They were one thing that still shone after all life had thrown at me.
I took a bus to work, I was two minutes late and that alone was going to earn me a scold from that big headed boss. I had never liked him he was always picking on me and that was after he'd made a move on me but his advances had hit a hard rock.
He had even threatened to fire me but what made him change his mind is still a misery to me.
I was changing into the working clothes which were far much better than my own when Elvy came in whistling like a tout calling to passengers. She always mesmerized me how she did it. I had tried it alone in my room but I was never able to.
"Hey cute eyes? Look at you still not ready bumpy dude is going to skin you alive"
Well I just said that my eyes were the only thing that brought the real beauty in me. Elvy always referred to Mr. Tony who was our boss as the bumpy dude because of his stomach. She was one funny girl that I could term close to a friend.
"Well I better prepare my self for it, I'm used to it."
"That's my girl. Now get your ass there and sway it and see if the bumpy dude is gonna scold you"
I rolled my eyes at her and just laughed. Elvy always had crazy ideas to light up my day.
Well of course I wouldn't do as she said.
"Lisa come over here"
Mr. Tony called to me and I could already hear his rumbling coming but it didn't, apparently he was in a good mood today.
"I want you to get table number five ready, we are going to have some important customers and I want them well attended to."
"Yes sir"
"Good now get to work"
I hurried to tidy up the table even though Elvy had already cleaned the place. But with Mr. Tony's eyes on me I kept myself busy.
I wonder who the important customers are?
Anyway its non of my concern.
