Chapter Five

1153 Words
I was beginning to think I had just made the dumbest decision of my life. I was standing on the other side of the castle wall, with no clue on what to do. The air was cold, my feet were sore and I was hungry. Suddenly, the feeling of victory was replaced with a new feeling of embarrassment and slight anger. I hadn't even given a single thought to what I was going to do after I escaped. All I had in mind was the city I wanted to go to. New York city. There wasn't any specific reason but the more I looked at pictures of the city, and watched movies based in the city, it was like something or someone was calling... begging me to come. I wrapped my hands around my body trying to warm myself, it didn't help that my wedding gown was a sleeveless gown but I couldn't blame my mom for choosing it. Never in her wildest dreams would she have imagined I'd run away in my wedding dress. I sighed, stepping o the grass and onto the road, I looked forward. A two-way road stretched out. To my left, the road veered o into a familiar neighborhood... my castle and to the right, the road led to an unknown destination. I stood there, staring down the right turn with uncertainty. The left turn seemed safe and comfortable even though I knew it was far from it but the right turn held the promise of excitement and new experiences. I didn't think I'd be contemplating which turn to take seeing as it took me a great deal of eort to escape but here I was, feeling torn between the familiarity of the road to my left and the allure of the unknown path to my right. Minutes ticked by and I realized that they must have already realized I was gone. It won't be long now before they send the guards to come find me. I had to make a choice. I looked at the left turn again and with a deep breath, I made my choice. I stepped onto the road to my right. My heart was pounding with anticipation as I didn't know what lay ahead, but I was ready to embrace the adventure and see where the road would take me. With a sense of determination, I took o, running, leaving my duties and obligations behind and embracing the possibilities of the open road. I needed to cover as much as possible before my father realized I was gone. I only had my feet, the guards he would send would have vehicles. This was definitely a whole lot easier in my head. Half an hour later, as I made my way down the unfamiliar road I had chosen, I could not stop my heart from pounding with so much excitement. Maybe it was the adrenaline running through my veins or the fear of my father's wrath if he manages to catch me or maybe, it was both but either way, I kept running, hoping for some sort of miracle. As I sprinted down the path, I could hear my footsteps echoing against the pavement as I got farther away from the castle. The night was dead silent. Only the distant howl of the winding could be heard as it danced through the trees, creating some sort of rustling sound. Suddenly, the silence was shattered by the unmistakable roar of an engine, growling louder and closer with each passing second. I whipped around to see a black sleek car emerge from a bend in the road, its headlights blinding in the darkness. The engine roared menacingly as the vehicle accelerated, barreling towards me from behind. For a second, I stood frozen on the spot, petrified. My brain screamed at me, begging me to move but my feet refused to obey. My eyes were fixed on the car hurtling towards me. I took a small step back, again and again till I stepped on my gown and fell to the floor, twisting my ankle. Panic surged through me as I quickly got up and desperately tried to outrun the speeding vehicle. I was going to defy whatever law in physics that said I couldn't outrun a speeding vehicle and maybe, just maybe, I would have done it but I wasn't running, I was limping. The sound of screeching tires filled the air as the car fought to come to a halt, and my heart leaped into my throat when the car maneuvered its way around me, a cloud of dust billowing up around us. I was forced to come to a stop as the car came to a halt mere feet in front of me, now filling the air with the smell of burning rubber. I stood frozen in the glare of the headlights illuminating the road before me, my heart pounding against my ribcage, threatening to set itself free of this torment. I didn't realize my capture would be so quick and easy but considering a guard had spotted me while I was going over the wall and I was moving on foot, I should have expected it. The car's dark exterior gleamed in the faint glow of the moon as I observed the vehicle idling on the road before me. I noticed something. It wasn't a guard’s car... I peered through the windshield. I could see the silhouette of a figure sitting in the driver's seat but windows were tinted dark, obscuring any glimpse of the person inside. My anxiety mingled with curiosity as I tried to make out any details that could give me a clue about the mysterious driver. A minute passed, the tension was mounting as I was still frozen in place, unsure of what to do. The driver hadn't made a move to get out of the car, whoever it was seemed to enjoy watching me tremble in my ruined wedding dress, my mind racing with a hundred dierent scenarios, unsure of whether this unexpected encounter would lead to danger or whether there was another reason for the driver's abrupt stop. I was sure it wasn't a guard. They usually went in groups of five but there was only one person in this car. Secondly... Guards do not drive black Ferraris. My thoughts wandered over to Noah but I quickly dismissed it, not wanting to entertain the horrifying possibilities of Noah being the mysterious driver. Finally the car door clicked open, and the driver inside stepped out. I held my breath and braced myself for what was to come, my eyes locked on the figure emerging from the car. My whole body tensed with fear and anticipation as time seemed to slow down. What I heard next had my heart shattering into a million pieces. “Did you really think you could pull a Disney princess stunt and escape?”
