A Destiny That Was Never Written

CHAPTER 2: Mate

I was at the kitchen fixing some coffee when I caught the scent of my mate. I turned around and saw him with the other pack members,laughing with a girl. His name is Alexander Jones Harper,a popular guy with his handsome looks and also the heir to the alpha position of this pack. He has the most beautiful sky blue eyes that is matched with a fiery red hair. I let out a sigh and went back to what I was doing.

"Lyra?Are you okay?"I mindlinked my wolf.

"A little,how about you?"she mindlinked back,I shrugged.

"I wish that we're the one next to him instead of that girl." She said and whimpered a little.

Alex knows that I am his mate but he rejected me but for a good reason that's why I don't hate him.

The day that I found out he was my mate was a week after my 18th birthday. I was nervously sitting in my bed when there was a knock on my door and then it opened. Alex came in and locked the door. We stared at each other for a while,captivated by each others eyes,it was the effect of being mates.He came closer,knelt in front of me and held my hand.

"I'm really sorry,Tamara."he said.

I was confused for a while and then realized he was rejecting me. Lyra started crying and howling. She was the one who hurts more than it hurts me. But I understand why he was doing this.

"I-I just -the pack-they-"he tried explaining but I cut him off.

"The pack won't be able to accept a luna who can't shift and weak as well meaning I won't be able to help the pack when crisis comes. I understand. "I said and gave him a small smile showing that it was okay but Lyra shouted in my head that it was not okay. I chose to ignore her.

"Don't get me wrong but it hurts me as well but thank you for understanding."He said and kissed my forehead,sending sparks all over me.

Then he stood up and started walking away. My tears started falling but suddenly Alex's lips was on mine,I was surprised but responded to the kiss. Our wolves took over and he pushed me in the bed. We made love that night. The next day,we acted as if nothing happened and went on with our lives but sometimes when we have the chance,we stare at each other with affection and love. Don't blame him,it's just that completing the mating process makes the bond stronger and more painful when we're away from each other.

I felt something very hot in my hands, making me hiss. I looked down and realized I was daydreaming again.

"s**t!"I cursed and removed my hands from the stove. I looked up to see Alex staring at me,worry evident in his eyes. He gestured at his hand but I smiled saying that I was okay. He looked away. Mates can feel each others pain when they are near.

"I'm happy that he still cares for us."Lyra said happily. My face fell.

"Too bad we're leaving." I said and Lyra didn't say anything else.

Realizing that there's no sense in staying in the pack,Lyra and I,decided to travel around the world for a while. I have enough money that was left by my parents. Jasper gave it all to me including his share.

Our plan is to leave without anyone noticing and this can only be possible on Alex's birthday party tomorrow where everyone who'll possibly notice my absent will be at. We thought about it for a long time, Lyra frequently disagreeing but when her longing for Alex's wolf got stronger, she finally agreed. Besides, if Alex ever finds someone suitable, we wouldn't be able to bear it. It was best to leave. He'll feel it after a while but by then I'll already be gone.
