Michael POV
The atmosphere suddenly became oppressive. The hair all over my body stood up. I raised my muzzle and saw the flash of darkness move from across the field. It moved with unbelievable speed, and it came straight for us. I didn't even have time to react to it. The dark shadow flew right at us before I could even blink. I glanced down at Tori. Josh had her by the hair. I wasn't paying attention to what he had been saying to her, but with her hair in his hand, I saw a distinct mark on her exposed neck. It had a dull glow to it, as if it was summoning this dark thing to protect her.
I had seen a lot of strange things since I left the pack, but this was the first time I actually feared for my life. The whole earth seemed to shake as the creature bellowed, "No! She's MINE!"
