I looked longingly at Desmonte before falling in line with our few soldiers. We were a small army by comparison to the rogues outside, but I felt confined that with Kana and her brother Adiel leading us, we would make it through this battle. The unexpected help from the usually taciturn witches and wizards might even provide enough distraction for me and Desmonte to go on an immediate surprise attack and take down some enemies before they had a chance to react. Desmonte is terrifying on the battlefield.
My heart warmed as I thought about him taking ownership of me out there last night. Declaring that I was his was the most thrilling thing I've ever heard. I want to hear it for the rest of my lifetime.
