As I walk Ellie through the airport to the security check, I feel a sense of sadness come over me. She’s really leaving me and I will be leaving her for a year.
Where do we go from here? What’s going to happen to us?
I lift her chin so her eyes would meet mine. “I’m going to miss you”.
“I’m going to miss you too” she sighs. I can sense that she has something on her mind but before I could ask she speaks. “So, what now? You leave and we don’t speak till you come back or..”
I pull her in for a hug not willing to let go. “We will write and FaceTime as much as we can. I promise.”
I feel her warm tears hit my shoulder as she tightens her grip around me more. I hope we are strong enough to beat the distance.
